NYSERDA, the Olympic Regional Development Authority and Borrego Solar Announce Ribbon Cutting on Gore Mountain’s 5.3-Megawatt Solar Array in Whitehall

What:
The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), the Olympic Regional Development Authority and Borrego Solar will announce the completion of a 5.3-megawatt solar installation in Whitehall, Washington County. The project, the largest in the U.S. dedicated to a ski resort, provides 85 percent of Gore Mountain’s electricity needs. This project will help support Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s Clean Energy Standard requiring 50 percent of the state’s electricity come from renewable energy sources by 2030.

Established in 1982, the New York State Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) was created by the State of New York to manage the facilities used during the 1980 Olympic Winter Games at Lake Placid. ORDA operates Whiteface, Belleayre and Gore Mountain ski areas; the Olympic Sports Complex at Mt. Van Hoevenberg; the Olympic speed skating oval, Olympic jumping complex and Olympic arena. As host to international and national championships, the Authority has brought millions of athletes, spectator and participants to the region, resulting in significant economic development.
