Subway, Metro-North, Buses and Paratransit Provide Convenient Service to All Yankees Home Games  

Yankee Stadium Reopening at 20 Percent Capacity  

Fans will be back in the stands for the 2021 Major League Baseball season and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is providing service options to get to local home games. The New York Yankees open their season Thursday, April 1 against the Toronto Blue Jays at 1:05 p.m. 

Fans can take the MTA to the game with convenient service on the subway, Metro-North Railroad, buses or paratransit, and enjoy a hassle-free trip to the Stadium. 

“We’re excited to welcome New Yorkers back to baseball and our subways, buses and paratransit vehicles are great ways to get to the game in a fast, safe and environmentally friendly way,” said NYC Transit Interim President Sarah Feinberg.  “Wear a mask – get a free one at a booth if you need – and enjoy the game.” 

“The best way to get to Yankee Stadium from the Hudson Valley or Connecticut is to take Metro-North – this year just like any other,” said Catherine Rinaldi, President of MTA Metro-North Railroad. “We welcome back baseball fans with trains that are cleaner than ever, providing a safe and convenient ride to the stadium.” 

Due to COVID-19 restrictions the capacity at Yankee Stadium is set at 20%, with approximately 11,000 fans permitted into the stadium. Fans will have to adhere to health guidelines detailed on the Yankees’ website. 

The MTA will also be prepared for the Mets home opener at Citi Field on April 8, as well as the New York City Football Club home opener at Yankee Stadium on April 24. 

Here are details of game day service to Yankee Stadium on April 1: 

New York City Subway  

For the April 1 home opener customers can take the  or  train to the 161 St-Yankee Stadium station. 

The subway’s 161 St-Yankee Stadium station, with service on the  and  lines, is right in front of the stadium at the corner of 161st Street and River Avenue. Local  trains and  trains stop at 161 St-Yankee Stadium at all times.  trains stop at 161 St-Yankee Stadium during rush hour only. Express  trains will stop at 161 St-Yankee Stadium during game hours. 

Metro-North Railroad  

Metro-North’s Yankees-E. 153rd Street Station is a short walk from the stadium. Metro-North will operate special shuttle trains between Grand Central Terminal, Harlem-125th Street and Yankees-E. 153rd Street stations. 

The Hudson Line stops at Yankees-E. 153rd Street normally, and Poughkeepsie express trains will make game day stops. Customers traveling from the Harlem and New Haven Lines can transfer at Harlem-125th Street to a Hudson Line or shuttle train. 

New York City Buses  

The Bx6, Bx6 SBS, Bx13 stop right in front of the stadium at E. 161st Street and River Avenue. In addition, the Bx1 and Bx2 both stop at E. 161st Street and the Grand Concourse, a three-block walk to the stadium. 

Customers can use the real-time bus ridership tracking feature on the MYmta app before boarding. 

Access-A-Ride  

Access-A-Ride paratransit has designated stops at Yankee Stadium. To book a trip customers can call (877)-337-2017, use MyAAR or the MYmta app. 

New York Transit Museum  

The New York Transit Museum will not run its vintage nostalgia train on Opening Day due to COVID-19 restrictions, however the Museum is offering other ways to usher in the new season. 

Fans can travel to home games in style with the New York Transit Museum Store’s Train to the Game Collection that includes tees, hats, magnets, mugs and more.
