Electricians Recruit Apprentices

Clay, NY (April 27, 2021) - The Central New York Electrical Training Alliance will conduct a recruitment from June 10, 2021 through June 9, 2022 for 40 Electrician apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.

Please note that the 40 openings listed for apprentices represent the total number for the Central, Finger Lakes, Mohawk Valley, and Southern Tier regions of the state.

Applications are available online only at www.cnyeta.org. Applicants who do not have access to a computer may call (315) 546-0221 to schedule using a computer at the sponsor’s training center at 4566 Waterhouse Road, Clay, NY. A computer will be made available during normal business hours of 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Applicants who do not have internet access may also want to visit their local library. All applications must be received no later than June 9, 2022.

The sponsor requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED), including one year of Algebra, Math Course 1, or High School Regents Math. Proof will be required at the time of appointment.
  • Must take the American Institute for Research’s Electrical Aptitude Test. A $20.00 testing fee will be required. Please note, you may request that this fee be waived. Fee waivers will be approved upon showing verifiable proof of financial need.
  • Must attest in writing that they are physically able to perform the work of an Electrician, which may include:
    • Climbing and working from ladders, scaffolds, poles, or towers of various heights.
    • Working in confined spaces.
  • Must pass a drug test, at the expense of the sponsor, at the time of appointment.
  • Must be able to read, hear and understand instructions and warnings given in English.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from various work sites and required classes at the approved school.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
