Plumbers and Steamfitters Recruit Apprentices

Mountainville, NY (September 30, 2013) -- The Joint Apprenticeship Committee for Plumbers & Steamfitters, Local #373, will conduct a recruitment from October 7, 2013 through October 18, 2013 for three plumber and steamfitter apprentices, State Labor Commissioner Peter M. Rivera announced today.

Applications can be obtained at the Local Union #373, 76 Pleasant Hill Road, Mountainville, NY, Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period. Applications must be filled out on the premises.

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma (G.E.D).
  • Must be physically able to perform the work required, as determined by a physical given by the sponsor’s physician (at the expense of sponsor) after the employment offer.
  • Must take post-employment drug test at an approved lab (at the sponsor’s expense).
  • Must be a resident of the union’s geographic jurisdiction – Rockland, Orange, Sullivan or Southern Ulster counties.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license to operate company vehicle to and from work and to and from related instruction.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner.  Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status.  Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs.  Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
