Special Subway & Bus Notice for Jan. 20 Women’s March

These weekend service changes are part of the MTA Subway Action Plan, the Enhanced Station Initiative in Queens and on-going capital construction work on the MTA New York City Transit subway system.  These programs maintain and upgrade track, signal, station and other infrastructure in order to continue to provide MTA customers with safe and reliable service.  For more information on the 2015-2019 Capital Program, click here.  

This weekend, work crews will be dispersed throughout the entire subway system to perform a variety of critical tasks in the areas of track replacement and maintenance, signal modernization, station enhancements, electrical upgrades and communication improvements.  All of this work is aligned with the MTA Subway Action Plan, a comprehensive plan to stabilize and modernize the subway system by attacking the key drivers of 79 percent of delay-causing major incidents, strategically targeting additional personnel and equipment to focus on critical parts of the system.    

Special Subway & Bus Notice for Jan. 20 Women’s March

A Women’s March will be held on Saturday, Jan. 20 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in Midtown Manhattan.  The main entrance point will be at or near 72 Street and Central Park West.  The March’s route will begin at Central Park West between 61 Street and 62 Street, with participants walking down Central Park West, Central Park South and Sixth Avenue, ending at 43 Street and Sixth Avenue.  For latest official details, see https://womensmarchalliance.org/.

Due to ongoing critical maintenance and Subway Action Plan work this weekend, uptown  trains will run express from 59 St-Columbus Circle to 125 St, and downtown  trains will run local from 125 St to 59 St-Columbus Circle.  March attendees arriving from the south are advised to take the  to 72 St and Broadway, then walk east, or take the  or  train to 59 St-Columbus Circle and walk north, or take an uptown  train to 125 St, and transfer to a downtown  or  to 72 St.

NYC Transit and MTA Buses that serve the area will be affected by reroutes, detours, and frozen zones.  Customers should anticipate numerous bus detours and extensive delays to both Local and Express service in Manhattan on the following routes:  M5, M7, M10, M20, M104, M66, M72, SBS79, M31, M50, M57, BXM2, QM2, QM4, QM5, QM6, QM15 & X1. 

For customized travel directions, customers are advised to use the MTA’s TripPlanner+ which provides travel information, and takes bus reroutes as well as weekend subway service diversions into account.

“The Weekender” is your digital guide to understanding planned service changes in effect for system maintenance and construction, and makes it easy for subway riders to visualize exactly how weekend work will affect subway service.  Customers may visit www.mta.info and check out “The Weekender,” accessible by clicking the  “Weekender” tab located within the Service Status Menu.

The “Weekender for Mobile App” includes MTA Subway Time data and is available for iPhone in the Apple app store, and in the Google Play store for Android devices.  This free-to-download app shares the same features as the desktop version, including a subway diagram that displays the service to be provided each weekend, and all service changes.  Users can pinch or expand the map to multiple zoom levels, and tap to choose one of three ways to view service diversions: Service by Line, Service by Borough and Service by Station. 

Customers can also download the apps at http://web.mta.info/apps/weekenderApp.html.

TripPlanner+ provides travel information that takes weekend service diversions into account.  In addition, customers can receive customized subway diversion e-mails delivered to their inbox by signing up for the E-mail Subscription Program by clicking here.   Customers who rely on these lines should allow for additional travel time.

From 5:45 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 21, Wakefield-241 St bound  trains run express from 3 Av-149 St to E 180 St due to track maintenance.  Use a South Ferry-bound  train to complete your trip.  As a reminder,  trains will not run in the Bronx this weekend. 

From 11:45 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, to 5:00 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22,  service will be suspended in Brooklyn due to Fix&Fortify Sandy Recovery Work in the Clark St Tunnel.  This project is part of MTA’s ongoing efforts to fix assets damaged during Sandy, and include repairs and rehabilitation of tracks, signals, pump rooms, fire protection system, and power and communication cables. 

• In Brooklyn,  service will be extended to New Lots Av to replace the .  service will be extended to Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College to replace the .   and  trains will run local in Brooklyn.  Service will not be available at the Clark St and Hoyt St stations.  As an alternative, use the nearby Borough Hall and Nevins St .  Transfer at Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr for  trains for service to Manhattan.
• In Manhattan, downtown  trains will be rerouted.   trains will run between the Bronx and South Ferry, making local stops between 34 St-Penn Station and South Ferry.   service will run between Harlem-148 St and 14 St.  Service will not be available at the Park Place and Wall St stations.  Use the nearby Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall and Wall St  stations instead.
• A free out-of-system transfer is available between the South Ferry  and Bowling Green .  Transfer between South Ferry  and  at South Ferry-Whitehall St.  Transfer at Times Sq-42 St for  trains to Brooklyn. 

From 11:45 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, to 3:00 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22,  service is suspended in both directions between Eastchester-Dyre Av and E 180 St due to signal modernization.   trains will run between South Ferry and Wakefield-241 St, and  trains will run between Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College and Grand Central-42 St.  Free shuttle buses operate between Eastchester-Dyre Av and E 180 St.  Transfer between free shuttle buses and  trains at E 180 St. 

From 12:01 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20 to 3:00 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22,  service will operate in two sections due to track maintenance in the Jerome Tube.  Between Woodlawn and 125 St, and between 125 St and New Lots Av.  Transfer at 125 St to continue your trip. 

From 11:45 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, to 3:00 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22, Woodlawn-bound  trains skip 138 St-Grand Concourse due to track maintenance in the Jerome Tube.  Use a Manhattan-bound  train to complete your trip and transfer at 149 St-Grand Concourse.  

From 10:00 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19 to 3:00 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22,  trains run local in both directions between 125 St and Grand Central-42 St due to drain work as part of the Subway Action Plan.

From 3:45 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20 to 10:00 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 21, 34 St-Hudson Yards bound  trains run express from 74 St-Broadway to Queensboro Plaza to Mets-Willets Point due to track replacement.  Use a Flushing-Main St bound  train to complete your trip.   

From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, to 5:00 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22, uptown trains run express from Canal St to the 145 St  and 168 St  station.  Downtown  trains run local from 168 St to Canal St due to signal maintenance as part of the Subway Action Plan.  Use a downtown  or  train to complete your trip.    

From 9:45 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, uptown  trains run express from 59 St-Columbus Circle to 145 St due to signal maintenance as part of the Subway Action Plan.  Use a downtown  or  train to complete your trip.  Transfer at 145 St, 125 St, or 59 St-Columbus Circle. 

From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19 to 5:00 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22, downtown  trains run local from 125 St to 59 St-Columbus Circle, and uptown  trains run express from 59 St-Columbus Circle to 145 St due to signal maintenance as part of the Subway Action Plan.  Use a downtown  or  train to complete your trip.  Transfer at 145 St, 125 St, or 59 St-Columbus Circle.  As a reminder,  service will end at 11:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 19.

From 6:30 a.m. to 12 midnight, Saturday, Jan. 20 and Sunday, Jan. 21,  trains are suspended in both directions between 145 St and 168 St due to signal maintenance as part of the Subway Action Plan. 

From 9:45 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Friday to Monday, Jan. 19 to Jan. 22, Manhattan-bound  trains run express in Brooklyn from 59 St /36 St  to Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and skip DeKalb Av due to scheduled maintenance. 

From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, to 5:00 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22, Jamaica Center Parsons/Archer-bound  trains skip Spring St and 23 St due to signal maintenance as part of the Subway Action Plan.  Use a downtown  local,  or  to complete your trip.    

From 10:00 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, to 5:00 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22, Jamaica Center Parsons/Archer-bound  trains run local in both directions between Queens Plaza and Roosevelt Av, and World Trade Center-bound  trains run local between 71 Av and Queens Plaza due to track maintenance. 

At all times until early 2018, Manhattan-bound  trains skip Avenue U, Avenue P, Avenue N, Bay Pkwy and Avenue I due to station renewal work on the Culver Line .  When finished, more than 27,000 daily customers will benefit from repaired staircases, fare control areas, walls, floors, platform girders, new platform windscreens, rubbing boards, tactile warning strips, improved lighting and artwork. 

• For service to these stations, take a Manhattan-bound  train to Kings Hwy or 18 Av and transfer to a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound .
• For service from these stations, take a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound  train to Kings Hwy or Avenue X and transfer to a Manhattan-bound .

From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, to 5:00 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22, Jamiaca-179 St bound  trains skip 14 St and 23 St due to signal maintenance.  Use a downtown  train to complete your trip.    

From 10:00 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, to 5:00 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22, Jamiaca-179 St bound  trains run local in both directions between 21 St-Queensbridge and Roosevelt Av, and Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound  trains run local from Jamiaca-179 St to 21 St-Queensbridge due to track maintenance. 

At all times until early 2018, Manhattan-bound  trains skip 104 St due to station rehabilitation work.

• For service to this station, use the nearby 111 St or Woodhaven Blvd stations instead. Or, take the Manhattan-bound  to 111 St or Woodhaven Blvd and transfer to a Jamaica Center-bound .
• For service from this stations use the nearby 111 St or Woodhaven Blvd stations instead. Or, take the Q56 bus and transfer to/from  service at nearby 111 St.

From 3:45 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20 to 10:00 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 21, Manhattan-bound  trains skip Flushing Av, Lorimer St, and Hewes St due to track replacement.  Use a Crescent St-bound  train to complete your trip. 

From 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20  trains run every 24 minutes between Rockaway Pkwy and Broadway Junction due to track maintenance.   service will operate in two sections:  Between 8 Av and Broadway Junction, and between Broadway Junction and Rockaway Pkwy.   

From 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 21,  trains are suspended in both directions between Rockaway Pkwy and Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs due to signal maintenance.   service will operate between 8 Av and Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs.  Free shuttle buses will run along two routes:

• Express between Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs and Rockaway Pkwy, stopping at Broadway Junction.
• Local between Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs and Rockaway Pkwy, making all  line station stops.
• Transfer between trains and free shuttle buses at Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs, or use the  via transfer at Broadway Junction.

At all times until April 2018, M service is suspended in both directions between Myrtle Av and Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs due to the Myrtle Viaduct Reconstruction project.   service will operate in two sections:

• Between Delancey-Essex St and Myrtle Av, and via the  to/from Broadway Junction, days/evenings.
• Between Metropolitan Av and Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs.
• Free shuttle buses operate between Myrtle Av (Broadway) and Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs.

From 6:15 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, and from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Sunday, Jan 21,  trains are suspended in both directions between Essex St and Broadway Junction due to track replacement.  For service between Essex St and Broadway Junction, take the  instead.      

At all times until Fall 2018, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound  trains skip Fort Hamilton Pkwy, New Utrecht Av, 18 Av, 20 Av, Kings Hwy, Avenue U and 86 St due to station rehabilitation work at nine stations on the Sea Beach Line.  When finished, this will yield a better travel experience for our customers including the installation of elevators at 8 Av and New Utrecht Av stations, providing our mobility impaired customers with better accessibility, upgraded communication systems, installation of Help Point intercoms, new stairways and handrails, reconstructed platforms and overpasses, repairs to canopies and columns, and artwork.

• For service to these stations, take the Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound  to Bay Pkwy or Coney Island-Stillwell Av and transfer to a Manhattan-bound .
• For service from these stations, take a Manhattan-bound  to Bay Pkwy or 8 Av and transfer to a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound .
• For New Utrecht Av-62 St, take the  Transfer between  and  trains at 36 St or Coney Island-Stillwell Av.

At all times until Spring 2018,  trains skip 30 Av and 36 Av in both directions due to MTA’s Enhanced Station Initiative project.  When this extensive overhaul is completed at the 30 Av and 36 Av stations, customers will benefit from improved features, such as enhanced signage for easier navigation, including digital, real-time train arrival information at subway entrances, glass and wire mesh platform windscreens, new security cameras and railings, artwork, new glass barriers and LED lighting throughout for increased light and transparency and a new staircase for exiting from the 30 Av Astoria-bound platform to the street-level intersection of 30th Avenue and Newtown Avenue.  For alternate service during this closure, use the nearby open Astoria line stations for  service at Broadway, Astoria Blvd, and 39 Av, or go to the Steinway St or 36 St  stations.  Or, use the following convenient bus route(s):

• Q102 to open Astoria line stations, Queensboro Plaza or Queens Plaza
• Q18 to Northern Blvd .
• Q66 to Steinway St , Northern Blvd , 21 St-Queensbridge , Queensboro Plaza , and Queens Plaza .
• Q69 and Q100 Ltd to 21 St-Queensbridge , Queens Plaza , Queensboro Plaza .

From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, to 5:00 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22, Astoria-bound  trains are rerouted via the  line from Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr to Canal St due to station improvements. 

From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, to 5:00 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22, Astoria-bound  trains skip 39 Av and Broadway due to station enhancements at 30 Av and 36 Av.  Use a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound  or Whitehall St-bound  to complete your trip. 

From 9:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, to 5:00 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22,  trains are rerouted via the  line in both directions between Canal St and DeKalb Av, and Manhattan-bound  trains run local in Brooklyn from 59 St and Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr due to signal improvements and electrical inspections as part of the Subway Action Plan. 

From 9:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, to 5:00 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22, 96 St-bound  trains are rerouted via the  line from DeKalb Av to Canal St due to station improvements at 25 St and 45 St.

From 11:30 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Friday, Jan. 19 to Monday, Jan. 22,  service is suspended in both directions between Whitehall St and 59 St, Brooklyn due to station improvements at 25 St and 45 St.
