Special Subway & Bus Notice for Jan. 20 Women’s March These weekend service changes are part of the MTA Subway Action Plan, the Enhanced Station Initiative in Queens and on-going capital construction work on the MTA New York City Transit subway system. These programs maintain and upgrade track, signal, station and other infrastructure in order to continue to provide MTA customers with safe and reliable service. This weekend, work crews will be dispersed throughout the entire subway system to perform a variety of critical tasks in the areas of track replacement and maintenance, signal modernization, station enhancements, electrical upgrades and communication improvements. All of this work is aligned with the MTA Subway Action Plan, a comprehensive plan to stabilize and modernize the subway system by attacking the key drivers of 79 percent of delay-causing major incidents, strategically targeting additional personnel and equipment to focus on critical parts of the system. Special Subway & Bus Notice for Jan. 20 Women’s March A Women’s March will be held on Saturday, Jan. 20 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in Midtown Manhattan. The main entrance point will be at or near 72 Street and Central Park West. The March’s route will begin at Central Park West between 61 Street and 62 Street, with participants walking down Central Park West, Central Park South and Sixth Avenue, ending at 43 Street and Sixth Avenue. Due to ongoing critical maintenance and Subway Action Plan work this weekend, uptown trains will run express from 59 St-Columbus Circle to 125 St, and downtown trains will run local from 125 St to 59 St-Columbus Circle. March attendees arriving from the south are advised to take the to 72 St and Broadway, then walk east, or take the or train to 59 St-Columbus Circle and walk north, or take an uptown train to 125 St, and transfer to a downtown or to 72 St. NYC Transit and MTA Buses that serve the area will be affected by reroutes, detours, and frozen zones. Customers should anticipate numerous bus detours and extensive delays to both Local and Express service in Manhattan on the following routes: M5, M7, M10, M20, M104, M66, M72, SBS79, M31, M50, M57, BXM2, QM2, QM4, QM5, QM6, QM15 & X1. For customized travel directions, customers are advised to use the MTA’s TripPlanner+ which provides travel information, and takes bus reroutes as well as weekend subway service diversions into account. “The Weekender” is your digital guide to understanding planned service changes in effect for system maintenance and construction, and makes it easy for subway riders to visualize exactly how weekend work will affect subway service. Customers may visit www.mta.info and check out “The Weekender,” accessible by clicking the “Weekender” tab located within the Service Status Menu. The “Weekender for Mobile App” includes MTA Subway Time data and is available for iPhone in the Apple app store, and in the Google Play store for Android devices. This free-to-download app shares the same features as the desktop version, including a subway diagram that displays the service to be provided each weekend, and all service changes. Users can pinch or expand the map to multiple zoom levels, and tap to choose one of three ways to view service diversions: Service by Line, Service by Borough and Service by Station. Customers can also download the apps at http://web.mta.info/apps/weekenderApp.html. TripPlanner+ provides travel information that takes weekend service diversions into account. In addition, customers can receive customized subway diversion e-mails delivered to their inbox by signing up for the E-mail Subscription Program by clicking here. Customers who rely on these lines should allow for additional travel time. Use a South Ferry-bound train to complete your trip. As a reminder, trains will not run in the Bronx this weekend. From 11:45 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, to 5:00 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22, service will be suspended in Brooklyn due to Fix&Fortify Sandy Recovery Work in the Clark St Tunnel. This project is part of MTA’s ongoing efforts to fix assets damaged during Sandy, and include repairs and rehabilitation of tracks, signals, pump rooms, fire protection system, and power and communication cables.

At all times until Fall 2018, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound trains skip Fort Hamilton Pkwy, New Utrecht Av, 18 Av, 20 Av, Kings Hwy, Avenue U and 86 St due to station rehabilitation work at nine stations on the Sea Beach Line. When finished, this will yield a better travel experience for our customers including the installation of elevators at 8 Av and New Utrecht Av stations, providing our mobility impaired customers with better accessibility, upgraded communication systems, installation of Help Point intercoms, new stairways and handrails, reconstructed platforms and overpasses, repairs to canopies and columns, and artwork.
At all times until Spring 2018, trains skip 30 Av and 36 Av in both directions due to MTA’s Enhanced Station Initiative project. When this extensive overhaul is completed at the 30 Av and 36 Av stations, customers will benefit from improved features, such as enhanced signage for easier navigation, including digital, real-time train arrival information at subway entrances, glass and wire mesh platform windscreens, new security cameras and railings, artwork, new glass barriers and LED lighting throughout for increased light and transparency and a new staircase for exiting from the 30 Av Astoria-bound platform to the street-level intersection of 30th Avenue and Newtown Avenue. For alternate service during this closure, use the nearby open Astoria line stations for service at Broadway, Astoria Blvd, and 39 Av, or go to the Steinway St or 36 St stations.
