Electricians Recruit Apprentices

Orchard Park, NY (September 11, 2015) - The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for Electricians, Local Union #41, will conduct a recruitment from October 7, 2015 through September 28, 2016 for four electrician (housewire or residential) apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.

Please note that the four openings listed for apprentices represent the total number for two recruitment regions, the Finger Lakes and Western regions. 

Applications can be obtained, in person only, at Local Union #41, S. 3546 California Road, Orchard Park, NY, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. every Wednesday, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period.

The Committee requires that applicants:        

  • Must be a resident within the jurisdiction of Local Union #41. Proof will be required within 30 days of applicant’s receipt of application. The jurisdiction of Local Union #41 includes:
    • All of Erie County.
    • Cattaraugus County – The townships of Ashford, East Otto, Ellicottville, Farmersville, Franklinville, Freedom, Lyndon, Machias, Mansfield, New Albion, Otto, Perrysburg, Persia, and Yorkshire.
    • Genesee County – The townships of Alabama, Alexander, Darien, Oakfield, and Pembroke. This also includes the portions of Batavia and Elba that lie west of Little Tonawanda Creek, Tonawanda Creek, the City limits of Batavia, and State Highway 98 north of the City of Batavia.
    • Wyoming County – The townships of Arcade, Attica, Bennington, Eagle, Java, Orangeville, Sheldon, and Wethersfield.
  • Must be at least 18 years old. Proof will be required within 30 days of applicant’s receipt of application.
  • Must have a valid NYS driver’s license in order to operate company vehicles. Proof will be required within 30 days of applicant’s receipt of application.
  • Must provide military transfer card or discharge form DD-214, if applicable. Proof will be required within 30 days of applicant’s receipt of application.
  • Must take and pass the electrical trades’ aptitude test.
  • Must attest in writing that they are physically and mentally able to safely perform the work of an electrician, which may include:
  • Must be able to read and understand English.
  • Must be able to hear and understand verbal instructions and warnings.
  • Must be willing and able to attend related instruction.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from various work sites and related instruction.
  • Must pass a drug test, at the expense of the sponsor, after selection and prior to indenture.
  • Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED).  An associate degree or higher will be accepted in lieu of a high school diploma or high school equivalency diploma.  Applicants must have successfully completed one full year of high school algebra or a post-high school algebra course.  Proof will be required within 30 days of applicant’s receipt of application.
  • Applicants who can verify having a minimum of 2,400 hours of substantiated experience in the electrical construction trade do not need to meet the education requirements above. 
    • Climbing and working from ladders, scaffolds, poles, or towers of various heights.
    • Crawling and working in confined spaces.
  • Must be able to read and understand English.
  • Must be able to hear and understand verbal instructions and warnings.
  • Must be willing and able to attend related instruction.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from various work sites and related instruction.
  • Must pass a drug test, at the expense of the sponsor, after selection and prior to indenture.

Applicants must forward their application and all required proof/documentation, as listed above, no more than 30 days from the date that they obtained their application, by U.S. Mail only, to: Recruitment, Electrical Industry Education Fund, S. 3546 California Road, Orchard Park, NY 14127.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner.  Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status.  Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs.  Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
