Sprinkler Fitters Recruit Apprentices

 

Newburgh, NY (October 3, 2014) – The Sprinkler Fitters Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee, Local Union #669 (Hudson Valley Region), will conduct a recruitment from November 3, 2014 through October 30, 2015 for five sprinkler fitter apprentices, State Labor Commissioner Peter M. Rivera announced today.

Applications may be obtained at the following locations from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period.

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as GED or TASC).
  • Must be physically able to perform the work required of the trade, as determined by a medical examination, including drug screening, at the expense of the sponsor, upon offer or selection.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from different job sites and related instruction.
  • Must be willing to travel to various work locations and to be away from home for extended periods of time.
  • Must provide military transfer card or discharge form DD-214, if applicable, after selection and prior to indenture.
  • Must provide proof of age, employment, education, licenses, and/or veteran status, after selection and prior to indenture.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner.  Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status.  Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs.  Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
