Lake Placid Receives Accolades for Foliage, Fall Festival and Winter Fun

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. --- With fall in full swing and winter around the corner, it’s easy to see why Lake Placid, N.Y. is recognized as a hot spot for seasonal fun.

As highlighted by Travel + Leisure, fall in the “Olympic village wins the gold medal when it comes to relaxation places” as Lake Placid “becomes a serene paradise” with leaves changing to the “most rich greens, yellows and reds you'll ever see.” For a full report on fall foliage in Lake Placid, please visit http://www.iloveny.com/seasons/fall/foliage-report/.

On the outskirts of Lake Placid, it’s festival season, to include last weekend’s Whiteface Mountain Oktoberfest. The weekend long festival was named to SKI Magazine’s 5 Must-Visit Oktoberfests in North America because not only does the celebration feature “plenty of eating, drinking, and dancing,” but a lederhosen 5K where participants “run, dance and chug their way to the finish line with steins filled to the brim.”

With temperatures dropping and winter right around the corner, many travelers are looking forward to hitting the slopes in the coming months. Offering trails and terrain for all abilities, SKI Magazine ranks Whiteface Mountain, in Wilmington, N.Y., number-five on their 2016's Top Ranked Eastern Ski Resorts, while rating nearby Lake Placid number-one for the 26th consecutive year for Off-Hill Activities. Visitors can have the complete winter sports adventure as “there is no other place where you can live the Olympic experience: Ride the bobsled, be a biathlete, tour the Olympic museum, skate the speed oval.”

Echoing the sentiment is USA Today, naming Lake Placid, to their 10 Best: Small Towns with Big Adventures list because it’s one of the few places that the public has access to downhill and cross-country ski, hockey and figure skate, luge and more.

The festival season continues this weekend on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 10-11, in Lake Placid, N.Y. as some of the nation's top ski jumpers will soar off the Olympic Jumping Complex's 90-meter ski jump, during the annual Flaming Leaves Festival. On Saturday, 3-7 p.m., almost 70 micro-breweries will celebrate the craft of brewing beer during the fourth annual Lake Placid Brewfest at the Olympic Center's 1932 Rink.

Admission to the Flaming Leaves Festival is $16 for adults and $10 for juniors and seniors. Two-day passes are also available, $27 for adults and $16 for juniors and seniors. Save $2 when purchasing your tickets online, at www.whitefacelakeplacid.com, or buy the Olympic Sites Passport and have admission included.
