Whiteface Lake Placid 2019-’20 Autumn/Winter Event Season Schedule

(November 5, 2019) --- Below is a rundown, listing many of the events on the Whiteface Lake Placid fall/winter 2019-’20 events’ calendar for your planning purposes only. Dates and schedules are subject to change.

Nov. 18-21, 2019 – North American Cup Bobsled & Skeleton, Monobob and Youth Olympic Games Qualifying Racing. The North American Cup is a second tier of competitions ranking below the World Cup. Women’s monobob is slated to make its Olympic debut in 2022, while bobsled and skeleton athletes, between the ages of 15-18, are using this event to gain valuable points in order to qualifying for January’s Youth Olympic Winter Games in Lausanne, Switzerland. Racing begins Monday, Nov. 18 and continues through Thursday, Nov. 21. Media credential application form can be found HERE.

Nov. 29-Dec. 1, 2019 – Viessmann FIL Luge World Cup/BMW Sprint Cup. International luge racing returns to Lake Placid. Nations Cup racing (World Cup qualifier) is slated for Friday, Nov. 29, while the men and women’s races are Saturday, Nov. 30. The doubles World Cup and BMW Sprint Cup competitions take place, Sunday, Dec. 1. Media credential application form can be found HERE.


Dec. 7-8, 2019 – BMW IBSF Bobsled and Skeleton World Cup Series Opener. The 2019-’20 BMW IBSF World Cup series opens on the famed Lake Placid track. Racing begins Saturday, Dec. 7, with the first heat of two-man bobsled, followed by women’s bobsled and women’s skeleton racing. Sunday’s scheduled features the second heat of the two-man race, followed by the men’s skeleton event. Media credential application form can be found HERE.

Dec. 13-15, 2019 – BMW IBSF Bobsled and Skeleton World Cup #2. Racing starts Friday, Dec. 13, with men and women’s skeleton. Saturday, Dec. 14, features the first heat of exciting four-man action as well as the women’s bobsled event. Sunday, Dec. 15, it’s the final and second heat of the four-man racing. Dec. 30, 2019 – Stars on Ice. North America’s premier skating show returns to Lake Placid’s Olympic Center. The show brings together Olympic, world and national champions for an exciting and unforgettable evening of figure skating.

Feb. 6-7, 2020 – IBSF Para-Bobsleigh World Cup. One year after hosting the IBSF Para-Bobsleigh World Championships, the Mt. Van Hoevenberg track looks forward to holding para-bobsleigh World Cup racing. Lake Placid’s famed one-mile long track, with its twisting turns and high-speed descent, will test each athlete’s strength, finesse and courage. Media credential application form can be found HERE.

March 14, 2020 – Lake Placid Nordic Festival/Loppet. Whether you’re a beginner skier or an experienced racer, the place to be is in Lake Placid for Lake Placid Loppet and Kort Loppet.  Nordic skiers will converge on the cross-country ski trails at Mt. van Hoevenberg to compete in the 35th Lake Placid Loppet. Open to classical and freestyle skiers, the Loppet is a 50k race (31-miles) through the 1980 Olympic ski trails.  The vertical climb is just under 3,700 feet.

March 20-21, 2020 – ECAC Men’s Hockey Championship Tournament.  The ECAC Hockey championship returns for the seventh straight postseason. The winner of this 59th annual tournament receives an automatic bid to play in the NCAA championship tournament.  The ECAC Men’s Hockey championship tournament will be played on the famed Herb Brooks Arena 1980 Rink.

April 1-4, 2020 – ISU World Synchronized Skating Championships. The event marks the first time that Lake Placid has been selected to host the ISU World Synchronized Skating Championships and the fifth time the United States has staged it. Held since 2000, the World Synchronized Skating Championships is an annual event organized by the International Skating Union and attracts the most elite senior-level synchronized skating teams from around the world. 

Other events this fall and winter include: Whiteface Opens for the 2019-’20 Skiing and Riding Season (weather/conditions permitting), Nov. 28; IBSF Bobsled & Skeleton International Training Week, Dec. 5-8; Miracle Holiday Classic Ice Hockey Tournament, Dec. 13-15; ISI Figure Skating Competition, Jan. 2-5; IBSF North American Cup & Women’s MonoBob Racing, Jan. 3-9; Canada Cup—Long Track Speed Skating, Jan. 17-19; Northwood School Invitational Hockey Tournament, Jan. 17-20;  IBSF Intercontinental Cup, Jan. 20-24; 40th Empire State Winter Games, Jan. 30-Feb. 2; IBSF Para-Bobsleigh Training, Feb. 1-2; USA Luge Youth National Championships, Feb. 29-March 1USCSA Ski and Snowboard Championships, March 8-14; USABS Bobsled & Skeleton National Championships, March 20-21; IBSF International Development School, March 23-April 4; USA Hockey Officials Clinic, April 24-25; 5th Annual Miracle on Ice Fantasy Camp—40th Anniversary of the Miracle on Ice, May 3-7
