Media Advisory: Improved East River State Park Waterfront Reopens

Completed project protects and improves scarce Brooklyn riverside parkland

Who:

Rose Harvey, Commissioner, New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation; East River State Park stakeholders

What:

Ceremony to mark the reopening of the enhanced East River State Park waterfront

When:

10 a.m., Friday, September 5

Where:

East River State Park, 90 Kent Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11211

The East River State Park waterfront reopened following the completion of a project to stabilize and enhance the park shoreline, helping complete the transformation of the former Williamsburg railyard into a community park. Over the last decade, several feet of the park beach and lawn had been lost to erosion from tidal activity and boat traffic. The project will arrest the erosion of rare public space on the waterfront, and create a more inviting setting for visitors to enjoy the park’s incomparable views of the Manhattan skyline.
