MEDIA ADVISORY FOR WEDNESDAY, JULY 30

DEC, DOH TO TOUR LABORATORY AT HALE CREEK FIELD STATION

The New York State Departments of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and Health (DOH) will host a tour and demonstration of lab operations at Hale Creek Field Station, the only in-state lab that analyzes fish and wildlife for chemical contaminants. The high-quality data developed at DEC’s lab is used primarily by DOH to assess the need for fish consumption advisories and also document the effects and toxicity of chemicals in surface water and fish across the state.

The lab also provides educational opportunities for local students to learn about environmental science and natural history through hands-on experiences.
