Elevator Constructors Recruit Apprentices |

Long Island City, NY (October 28, 2021) - The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for The International Union of Elevator Constructors, Local Union #1, will conduct a recruitment from December 20, 2021 through December 31, 2021 for 50 Elevator-Escalator Constructor and Modernizer apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today. The recruitment for Local Union #1 will be offered online (www.neieprecruitment.org) beginning Monday, December 20, 2021 starting at 12:00 p.m. through December 31, 2021 ending at 5:00 p.m. (24 hours per day), during the recruitment period or until 1,500 applicants have been submitted, whichever comes first. All applications must be received by January 7, 2021 at 5:00 p.m. This is a limited-application recruitment. The recruitment will be offered for the period mentioned above or until 1,500 applications have been submitted, whichever comes first. A notice will be posted on the Local Union #1 website at www.localoneiuec.com once they have received 1,500 applications. Applicants who do not have Internet access may contact and visit their local library for computer access and assistance. Applicants must take and pass the Elevator Industry Aptitude Test with a score of at least 70 out of total of 100. Score is a part of the evaluation. This test will be administered at a facility in the City of New York. Applicant must present a government-issued Photo ID at the time of aptitude test. A $25.00 testing fee is required on the testing day. Payment must be in the form of a postal money order or certified bank check (no cash, credit cards or personal checks will be accepted). Please note, you may request that this fee be waived. Fee waivers will be approved upon showing verifiable proof of financial need. “The Key to NYC Executive Order” issued by Mayor de Blasio mandates that certain establishments verify that their staff and patrons are vaccinated against COVID-19. Also, masks are required to be worn in all common places outside of the testing area. As a result, anyone age 12 and older is required to show proof that they have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine authorized for use or emergency use by the FDA or WHO while participating in the testing facility. In compliance with the ordinance, all guests and event attendees age 12 and up must show valid proof of vaccination along with Valid ID. Proof of Vaccination currently includes:
Note that the City ordinance does not accept proof of a negative COVID-19 test result. Please note that any applicants who are not able to show proof of vaccination will not be permitted into the testing facility. Should the City’s COVID-19 requirements change prior to the test date, the applicant will be notified via the email they have provided on their application of any such changes. Incomplete applications will not be accepted. Applicants are required to fill out all fields of requested information on the application. Applicants will be scheduled for aptitude exams in February. Applicants who pass the aptitude exam will be scheduled for an interview in March. Please understand that more applicants may apply than can fit in the pool of candidates. Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner.
