Operating Engineers Recruit Apprentices

Glenmont, NY (March 11, 2015) - The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for Operating Engineers, Local Union #106, will conduct a recruitment from April 8, 2015 through September 10, 2015 for five operating engineer (universal equipment) apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.

Please note that the five openings listed for apprentices represent the total number for five recruitment regions – the Capital District, Hudson Valley, Mohawk Valley, North Country, and Southern Tier regions.  

Applications can be obtained, in person only, from Local Union #106, 44 Hannay Lane, Glenmont, NY, from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on the second Wednesday and second Thursday of each month, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period.  Applications must be completed on the premises.  

The Committee requires that applicants:

§  Must be at least 18 years old.

§  Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED).

§  Must be able to read and understand English.

§  Must be able to understand verbal instructions and warnings given in English.

§  Must live within the geographic jurisdiction of Local Union #106 for at least six months prior to this recruitment.  This includes the counties of: Albany, Broome, Chenango, Clinton, Columbia, Dutchess, Essex, Franklin, Fulton, Greene, Hamilton, Herkimer, Montgomery, Otsego, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie, Tioga, Warren, and Washington.

§  Must have reliable transportation to and from various job sites and related instruction classes.

§  Must pass a drug/alcohol screening, at the expense of the sponsor, after selection and prior to indenture.

§  Must provide military transfer card or discharge form DD-214, if applicable, after selection and prior to indenture.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner.  Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status.  Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs.  Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
