Service Changes are Part of Subway Action Plan, Special Bus & Subway Notice for Panorama Music Festival on These weekend service changes are part of the MTA Subway Action Plan, the Enhanced Station Initiative in Queens and Manhattan and ongoing maintenance, repair and upgrade work throughout the MTA New York City Transit subway system. These programs maintain and upgrade track, signal, station and other infrastructure in order to provide MTA customers with safe and reliable service. More information on the 2015-2019 Capital Program is available here. This weekend, work crews will be dispersed throughout the entire subway system to perform a variety of critical tasks in the areas of track replacement and maintenance, signal modernization, station enhancements, electrical upgrades and communication improvements. All this work is aligned with the MTA Subway Action Plan, a comprehensive plan to stabilize and modernize the subway system by attacking the key drivers of 79 percent of delay-causing major incidents and strategically targeting additional personnel and equipment to focus on critical parts of the system. The Weekender is accessible through the MTA website by clicking the “Weekender” tab within the Service Status Menu, and is also available as a free app for iPhone and Android devices. TripPlanner+ is an online tool that provides customized travel guidance based on available service and takes weekend service diversions into account. In addition, customers can receive customized subway status emails or texts by signing up at www.MyMTAalerts.com.
Special Bus & Subway Notice for Panorama Music Festival on Randall’s Island 7-27 to 7-29 MTA New York City Transit is providing a special X80 express bus service from the 125 St-Lexington Avenue station to Randall’s Island daily from Friday, July 27 through Sunday, July 29, for those attending the 2018 Panorama Music Festival. Customers boarding the X80 toward Randall’s Island will pay the express bus fare which is $6.50. However, customers transferring from the subway with a pay-per-ride MetroCard only pay $3.75. Keep in mind that monthly MetroCards will not work on the X80 bus, so make sure you have a pay-per-ride MetroCard with cash on it or exact change so you can pay upon boarding. To expedite the service at the end of the concerts, fares will not be collected leaving the island; customers pay when they enter the connecting subway. Customers may also take the M35 to and from Randall's Island. The X80 will operate from 11:00 a.m. to midnight, about every 4-5 minutes during the event. Due to ongoing critical maintenance and Subway Action Plan work this weekend, trains will run every 20 minutes between Bowling Green and Eastchester-Dyre Av. Downtown trains will run express from 125 St to Grand Central-42 St. Use an uptown local or train instead.
From 9:30 p.m. Friday, July 27 to 5 a.m. Monday, July 30, service is suspended in both directions between 14 St and South Ferry due to track maintenance. trains will run between Wakefield-241 St and 14 St. trains will run express between 42 St and 14 St. Free shuttle buses will provide alternative service between Chambers St and South Ferry. Transfer between at 42 St or 14 St, and between and free shuttle buses at Chambers St. From 8:45 a.m. Saturday, July 28 to 9 p.m. Sunday, July 29, Wakefield-241 St bound trains skip Bronx Park East, Pelham Pkwy, Allerton Av, and Buhre Av due to track replacement. Use a Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College bound train to complete your trip. Transfer at Gun Hill Rd or E 180 St. From 9:30 p.m. Friday, July 27 to 5 a.m. Monday, July 30, 2 trains run local in both directions between 34 St-Penn Station and Chambers St, and trains run local in both directions between 96 St and Chambers St due to track maintenance between Rector St and South Ferry. As a reminder, late night service is not running. From 11:45 p.m. Friday, July 27 to 5 a.m. Monday, July 30, service is suspended due to station enhancements at 145 St. As an alternative, take trains and/or free shuttle buses operating between 148 St and 135 St. Transfer between trains and buses at 135 St. From 5 a.m. to 12 midnight, Saturday, July 28 and Sunday, July 29, service is suspended in both directions between 96 St and Harlem-148 St due to station enhancements at 145 St. trains will run in both directions between New Lots Av and 96 St, and via the line to 137 St, which will be the last stop. Free shuttle buses will provide alternate service between Harlem-148 St and 135 St. Transfer between trains at 96 St and between trains and free shuttle buses at 135 St. At all times until November 2018, trains will skip 145 St in both directions due to MTA’s Enhanced Station Initiative project. The 145 St line station opened more than a century ago in 1904. As crews make critical repairs to the station infrastructure such as concrete and metal platforms, stairs, beams and columns, they will also work to modernize the station with enhancements to all entrances including stairs, LED lighting, digital signage providing real-time service information, and new turnstile areas with security cameras and brighter lighting. Countdown clocks and Help Points, which allow customers to communicate quickly with staff for assistance or emergencies, will be installed throughout the stations. New station furniture and platform safety enhancements such as tactile edge warning strips also will be installed to improve customer safety. During this closure, trains will run between New Lots Av and 96 St, and via the to 137 St, the last stop. At all times until December 2018, trains will skip 28 St in both directions due to MTA’s Enhanced Station Initiative project. The 28 St station is one of the oldest in the subway system, since it opened on the day that subway service began in October 1904. See the entry above for project details. For alternate service during this closure, use the nearby stations along Park Av South at 33 St or 23 St. Or, use the nearby 28 St station Broadway. Transfer at Grand Central-42 St, 59 St, 86 St or 125 St. From 9:45 p.m. Friday, July 27 to 5 a.m. Monday, July 30, uptown trains will skip 23 St and 33 St due to station enhancements at 28 St. Use a downtown local or to complete your trip. Transfer at Grand Central-42 St or 14 St-Union Sq. As a reminder, the 28 St station is closed for extensive renovations until December 2018. From 6:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, July 28, and from 8:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday, July 29, trains will run every 20 minutes between Bowling Green and Eastchester-Dyre Av, and due to station enhancements at 28 St. Also, beginning 8:30 p.m. Friday, July 28, service will end early between Bowling Green and 180 St. As an alternative, take the and/or instead. trains will run between E 180 St and Eastchester-Dyre Av. At all times until September 2018 trains skip 163 St-in both directions due to MTA’s Enhanced Station Initiative project. Use M3, M100 or M101 buses and transfer to the at 168 St or 155 St with MetroCard. Need to transfer to another bus? At all times until Monday, September 3, service will be suspended in both directions between Broad Channel and Far Rockaway-Mott Av due to a flood protection project in the Rockaways that will make critical subway infrastructure more resilient in the face of future storms, and improve the overall reliability of subway service on the peninsula. During this closure, service will operate between Inwood-207 St and Broad Channel, and via the to/from Rockaway Park-Beach 116 St. shuttle trains will run between Rockaway Park-Beach 116 St and Beach 90 St, and via the to/from Far Rockaway-Mott Av. At all times until September 2018, trains will skip Cathedral Parkway-110 St in both directions due to MTA’s Enhanced Station Initiative project. When this project is completed, customers will benefit from critical structural and safety repairs and improvements to concrete and steel features such as columns, beams, platforms, walls and stairs. There will also be other improvements and upgrades such as improved waterproofing, a reconfigured mezzanine area including new glass barriers, new security cameras, LED lighting for increased light and energy efficiency, and enhanced signage for easier navigation including digital, real-time service change and train and bus arrival information. For alternate service during this closure, walk to the nearby stations at 116 St and 103 St, along Fredrick Douglas Blvd/Central Park West. Or take the at 110 St, along Broadway. Use the M10 bus along Fredrick Douglas Blvd and transfer to the ( overnight) at 116 St or 103 St with MetroCard. If you need to transfer to another bus, ask the M10 bus operator for a MetroCard Bus Transfer, which can be used on your next local bus ride within two hours. The 23 St station opened around the time of World War II, in December 1940. When finished, this will yield a better travel experience for our customers including the installation of elevators at 8 Av and New Utrecht Av stations, providing our mobility impaired customers with better accessibility, upgraded communication systems, installation of Help Point intercoms, new stairways and handrails, reconstructed platforms and overpasses, repairs to canopies and columns, and artwork.
