Relive the Miracle One More Time Through the Miracle on Ice Fantasy Camp

Camp Registration Ends Monday, March 9

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. --- It was only two weeks ago that on Saturday, Feb. 21, all 19 surviving members of the 1980 USA Hockey Team reunited for the first time ever in Lake Placid, N.Y. to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the XIII Olympic Winter Games and the team’s stunning upset victory over the then Soviet Union en route the Olympic gold medal.

The excitement from that special Relive the Miracle night, that drew more than 5,000 fans from across the country to the famed Olympic Center, can still be felt in the two-time Olympic village in Upstate New York.

It was clear that Lake Placid is still a town bent on loving hockey… particularly this team. Through audio, video, still pictures and discussion with every one of the players, the two-hour event brought back so many memories, not just of the “Miracle on Ice,” but of the events leading up to the Olympics, the game and the team’s eventual gold medal win over Finland, a game that’s largely forgotten.

One player was missing on stage, but his spirit couldn’t be ignored. The team’s rugged defenseman Bob Suter, passed away in September, at the age of 57, and is jersey number-20 was raised to the rafters as a tribute as the event concluded.

While it took 35 years for the whole team to reunite back in Lake Placid, it will only take a few more weeks for 11 players from that famed squad to return to be a part of the inaugural Miracle on Ice Fantasy Camp, March 29-April 2. Just like the Relive the Miracle celebration, the camp will also be held in the Olympic Center’s 1980 Rink-Herb Brooks Arena, where Team USA shocked the Soviet Union, 4-3, in what’s also been recognized worldwide as the Greatest Sporting Moment of the 20th Century.

“The ‘Miracle on Ice’ Anniversary celebration weekend was such an incredible event for the entire team to share,” said 1980 USA Hockey player Ken Morrow. “Some of the stories we shared that night were stories that we’ve retold many times over the past 35 years. But some stories and some of the events weren’t told before and to recount them with the entire team and a packed arena was truly special.

“Now to come back at the end of the month and feel and share the excitement again is equally as exciting.”

Morrow is one of the 11 1980 USA Hockey players coming back to Lake Placid to be a part of the camp. His other teammates include Neal Broton, Dave Christian, Mike Eruzione, John Harrington, Steve Janaszak, Mark Johnson, Mike Ramsey, Buzz Schneider, Dave Silk and Mark Wells.

There are a limited number of spots remaining for the inaugural Miracle on Ice Fantasy Camp and time is running out to be a part of it. Registration closes on Monday, March 9. Fans can sign up online and learn more by visiting www.MiracleonIceFantasyCamp.com.

All Fantasy Campers will be picked up at Albany (N.Y.) International Airport and transported to and from Lake Placid via motor coach. While in Lake Placid, they will receive hockey instruction and play games while spending four nights at the High Peaks Resort. There they will enjoy dining, socialize with the 1980 players, receive a gift bag including practice and home and away replica1980 USA Hockey game jerseys, hockey helmet, gloves, socks, pants, camp apparel, souvenir autographed hockey stick and a framed autographed photo of each participant and their team with the 1980 Hockey Players.  Participants will also receive a camp highlight video and be a part of those “inside” stories 35 years in the making.

“It’s hard to believe that 35 years have already passed,” noted 1980 team member Buzz Schneider.  “I get just as much excitement today talking with fans as I did 35 years ago and I can’t wait to share those stories and more with this group of people.”
