MTA New York City Transit and the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) announced today that Bx27 trips will be extended to the Soundview Ferry Landing in Clason Point Park to coordinate with the new city ferry service slated to launch this summer.

The Bx27, which connects customers in the Shorehaven, Clason Point and Soundview sections of the Bronx to the Morrison Av-Soundview 6 subway station, currently terminates on Soundview Avenue approximately 1,000 feet northwest of the ferry landing. The extension of select Bx27 trips to the Soundview Ferry Landing will provide an easy, direct connection for customers seeking to use local bus service or New York City Subway.

“Extending the Bx27 is a win for our customers in the Bronx who want an easier and faster trip to the new Soundview ferry,” said Darryl Irick, MTA Bus Company President and MTA New York City Transit Senior Vice President of Buses.  “This is a natural opportunity for us to work with EDC, and we’re pleased to help spur the success of the new Soundview ferry route.”

Daily Bx27 trips between 6:30 a.m. and 10 p.m. will be extended to the ferry landing to meet ferry departures and arrival times. The route extension will be funded by NYC Transit and implemented in summer 2018 to coordinate with NYCEDC’s launch of the Soundview ferry service.

U.S. Representative Jose E. Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. said: “The people of The Bronx are always excited for new transit options, and ferry service is no exception. This extension of the Bx27 bus line to the forthcoming Soundview ferry service will allow more of my constituents to take advantage of this new transportation option, and I appreciate the MTA and NYC Transit’s thoughtful planning on this issue to allow for greater access.”

State Senator Luis Sepulveda said: “I am glad to see the plans for the long awaited Soundview ferry, including the extension of the BX27 bus route to the ferry terminal, are finally coming together. This new commuter service for thousands of residents in my district will mean faster service to and from Manhattan, help relieve overcrowding on the subways, and a great, refreshing and relaxing ride.”

Assemblyman Marcos A. Crespo said: “The extension of the 27 bus line is a paramount change to ensure that bus service connects commuters to Clason Point Park and Ferry Service and avoids the need for additional vehicles to come and park in our community exacerbating our limited parking options. This will alleviate many of the concerns of residents and serve all New Yorkers positively. I’m grateful to all who joined us in advocating and for the MTA agreeing to the change.”

William Rivera, district manager of Bronx Community Board 9, said: “Community Board 9 has worked diligently to ensure commuter friendly access to the ferry. We are ecstatic to learn the news that the BX27 bus line will be extended to provide service to the ferry. We know this will facilitate the commute for many of our community members and we welcome this with open arms.”
