Glaziers Recruit Apprentices

Menands, NY (August 28, 2016) - The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for The Finishing Trades Institute of New York at Wappingers Falls, will conduct a recruitment from September 28, 2016 through September 27, 2017 for two glazier apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.

Please note that the two openings listed for apprentices represent the total number for four recruitment regions, the Capital District, Hudson Valley, Mohawk Valley, and North Country regions. This program’s jurisdiction includes the counties of Albany, Columbia, Dutchess, Essex, Fulton, Greene, Hamilton, Montgomery, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie, Warren, and Washington. 

Applications can be obtained at Local Union #155, 191 Broadway, Menands, NY from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. every Wednesday, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period.

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED).
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from various job sites and related instruction classes.
  • Must possess a valid NYS driver’s license in order to drive company vehicles.
  • Must provide military transfer card or discharge form DD-214, if applicable, after selection and prior to indenture.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
