Alpine Olympian Andrew Weibrecht Visits Lake Placid Olympic Museum

Biathletes Bailey & Burke Headline Next Thursday’s Program

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. --- Two-time Olympic alpine medalist Andrew Weibrecht visited the Lake Placid Olympic Museum today, Thursday, July 13, to talk about his sport, sign autographs and pose for pictures. His visit was a part of the museum’s Meet an Olympian program.

Weibrecht, who is eying his third Olympic Winter Games this February in PyeongChang, South Korea, won the men’s Super-G Olympic bronze medal, in 2010, in Vancouver, British Columbia. Four years later, in Sochi, Russia, he raced to silver in the same event.

The Lake Placid Olympic Museum’s Meet an Olympian program continues next Thursday, July 20, from 3-5 p.m., with U.S. biathletes Lowell Bailey and Tim Burke. Last winter, the 35 year-old Bailey became the first American ever to win a biathlon world championship by taking the 20km individual event. That win also secured him a spot on his third Olympic team.

Burke is looking forward to his third Olympic Winter Games. In December 2009, he became the first-ever U.S. biathlete to lead the overall Biathlon World Cup.

The Meet an Olympian program is a great way for people to meet several of the Lake Placid region’s 2018 Olympic Winter Games hopefuls.

The Lake Placid Olympic Museum is located at the Olympic Center in Lake Placid, N.Y.  All scheduled athletes are subject to change and additional past and future Olympians may join the program.  Admission for the Meet an Olympian program is $7 for adults, $5 for seniors 65+ and juniors 7 – 12, and ages six and under are free.

For more information and for updated weekly scheduled appearances, please call the museum at 518-302-5326 or log on to www.whitefacelakeplacid.com about ORDA venues and events.
