LAKE PLACID, N.Y. --- The days are shorter, the nights are cooler and the Mt. Van Hoevenberg Olympic Sports Complex sliding track, in Lake Placid, N.Y., is getting ready for another exciting season of bobsled, luge and skeleton sliding. Weather and conditions permitting, sliding on the mile-long combined track is scheduled to begin Monday, Oct. 5. To get ready for the upcoming 2015-’16 sliding season, work was recently completed painting the exterior of the track white. By painting the 22-curve course, it will stop the degradation of the insulation system and reflect sun. Work also continued this off-season on installing shades and roofs, both of which will help the facility save on energy cost and improve overall performance. The United States Bobsled and Skeleton Federation will begin holding national team selection races on the track beginning October 17, while USA Luge will hold seeding races October 31. The track will also play host to several international events this winter. The world’s best luge athletes will compete in World Cup action, December 4-5, while the while IBSF Bobsled and Skeleton World Cup returns, January 8-9.
