Lake Placid Welcomes Luge World Cup Racing Dec. 5-6

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. --- Less than one week after kicking off the 2014-15 Viessmann Luge World Cup in Igls, Austria, the  U.S. national luge team will take on the world’s best racers in Lake Placid, N.Y., on Dec. 5-6.

The Mt. Van Hoevenberg Olympic Sports Complex track opened for the season on Oct. 20 and has already  played host to  the USA Luge and USA Bobsled/Skeleton national championship and selection races. The December event will mark the first time that luge World Cup racing will take place on the mile-long, 20-curve course since February of 2013. During that event, Team USA took silver in the team relay competition, as did Julia Clukey  (Augusta, Maine) in the women's race.

Action begins Friday, Dec. 9, at 9:55 a.m. with the doubles’ event.  The men will also race on Friday, with the first of two heats starting at 12:40 p.m.  Saturday’s action opens at 9:30 a.m. with the women’s singles race, featuring 2014 Olympian Erin Hamlin (Remsen, N.Y.).  After the women's race on Saturday,  the fan favorite team relay race begins at 12:40 p.m. Team relay racing made its Olympic debut last February in Sochi, Russia.

Tickets at the gate are $16 for adults, per day, and $10 for juniors and seniors. Admission is free with the purchase of the Olympic Sites Passport, available for only $32.
