Laborers Recruit Apprentices

Elmsford, NY (July 27, 2018) - The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for Laborers, Local Union #235, will conduct a recruitment from August 27, 2018 through August 23, 2019 for three skilled construction craft laborer apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.

Please note that the three openings listed for apprentices represent the total number for two recruitment regions, the Capital District and Hudson Valley regions. This program’s jurisdiction includes the counties of Columbia, Dutchess, Putnam, and Westchester. 

Applications can be obtained at Local Union #235, 41 Knollwood Road, Elmsford, NY, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period.  

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED).
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from work sites and related instruction classes.
  • Must pass a drug test, at the expense of the sponsor, after selection and prior to indenture.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
