What: The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) will host a public workshop to answer questions from the public regarding changes to the Proposed Solid Waste Management Facilities (Part 360) regulations.  The last comprehensive revisions to these regulations occurred in 1993, and the proposed revisions are intended to increase protection of public health, safety, natural resources and the environment. The proposed changes include measures to regulate previously unregulated facilities, activities and waste streams within the state’s existing solid waste management program. The proposed revisions also streamline and reduce regulatory burdens for entities while maintaining environmental protections.

Two identical workshop sessions have been scheduled for Long Island (DEC Region 1) on April 13, 2016 at the Suffolk County Water Authority Education Center, 260 Motor Parkway, Hauppauge, NY.  The workshops will be offered from 1 - 4 p.m. and 6 - 9 p.m. at this location.  Interested participants may choose to attend either workshop, which will include a brief presentation by DEC staff regarding the major changes included in the proposed regulations, and a question and answer period.  

The workshops are being held in advance of a June 2, 2016 public hearing at this same location where formal comments regarding the proposed Part 360 revisions will be heard. The public comment period for these revisions ends on July 15, 2016. The public hearing on June 2 will begin at 1 p.m.

1 – 4 p.m. and 6 – 9 p.m. – Workshop and Presentation: DEC staff will present information regarding the proposed Part 360 revisions. Once this presentation concludes, staff will take questions on these proposed revisions.
