MEDIA ADVISORY: ZUMBA® FITNESS FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS

 

Who: Opening remarks: Gwen Wright, Executive Director of the NYS Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence (OPDV). Zumba® Fitness instructors: Holly Rose and Melissa Mace.

What
:  A Zumba® Fitness event to promote awareness of domestic violence. OPDV staff will also be painting bystanders’ pinkie nails purple. A Clothesline Project will also be on display.
 
When: Thursday, October 22, 2015, 12:00-1:00 p.m.
 
Where: West Capitol Park, Albany. Steps on South Swan Street.
 
Background: The NYS Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence sponsors the annual statewide “Shine the Light on Domestic Violence” campaign, which provides support and resources for organizations and individuals to turn something purple – the awareness color for domestic violence – during October. This Zumba Fitness event held at West Capitol Park in the State’s Capital, is a highly visible event organized by OPDV and open to all who wish to lend their support.
 
Availability: Speaker and instructors are available for interviews immediately following the program.
