The Next Generation Comes to Compete in Lake Placid

Third Eye Blind Performs Free Concert at Lake Placid Olympic Jumping Complex, Feb. 24

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. --- While the world’s best winter athletes gather in PyeongChang, South Korea to achieve Olympic glory, the next generation of Olympians are set to compete in Lake Placid, N.Y., when they gather for NorAm biathlon, aerial skiing and U.S. Cup ski jumping.

NorAm Biathlon:

Many of United States and Canada’s rising biathlon stars will gather at Mt. Van Hoevenberg, Feb. 17-18, and try to tackle the same Nordic trails that were used during the 1980 Lake Placid Olympic Winter Games. During the two-day biathlon event, which combines cross-country skiing and rifle shooting, athletes will compete in sprint and pursuit racing. Racing begins both days at 10 a.m.

NorAm Freestyle Skiing:

North America’s best freestyle aerial skiers return to Lake Placid for two days, Feb. 17-18, of high-flying action at the Olympic Jumping Complex.  Watch as these men and women soar as high as 60-feet in the air, performing spins, flips and twists before landing. Action begins each day at 1:15 p.m. and concludes with the finals at 3 p.m.

Olympic Site Passport holders receive free admission. Two-day adult advance tickets on-line are available for $20, while two-day admission for juniors and seniors on-line, in advance, is just $10. Children six and under are free. Single day adult on-line adult tickets are being sold for $12, while the price for juniors and seniors is $6. U.S. Cup Ski Jumping:

Ski jumping is the world’s first “extreme sport” and Feb. 19 thru 24 catch the future of U.S. ski jumping as athletes soar more than the length of a football field during the U.S. Cup Ski Jumping event.

Ski jumping has a long history and the Olympic Jumping Complex is home to both the 90k and 120k ski jumps. Competition off the 90k jump is slated for Monday, Feb. 19, from 6-7:30 p.m., with fireworks to follow, while on Tuesday, Feb. 20, the high-flying action moves over to the thrilling 120k hill, beginning at noon.

Throughout the remainder of the week, these athletes will continue to fly off the 120k jump preparing for Saturday’s, Feb. 24, jumping exhibition, beginning at 6 p.m.

Once Saturday’s ski jumping wraps up, stick around for the free Third Eye Blind concert. The San Francisco, Calif. band has sold more than 12-million albums worldwide and is currently on tour, the Fall of the Summer Gods Tour, commemorating their 20th anniversary together.

While at each of these events, be sure to catch some of the action from the XXII Olympic Winter Games and cheer on Team USA. Television monitors throughout the base lodges will be tuned into the action from PyeongChang.
