Electricians Recruit Apprentices

Clay, NY (July 9, 2019) - The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for Central New York Electrical Training Alliance will conduct a recruitment from July 10, 2019 through June 10, 2020 for 25 Electrician apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.

Please note that the 25 openings listed for apprentices represent the total number for the Central, Finger Lakes, Mohawk Valley, and Southern Tier regions.

Applications can be obtained at the Central New York Electrical Training Alliance, 4566 Waterhouse Road, Clay, NY, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., on the second Wednesday of each month, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period. Applications can be completed online at any time during the recruitment period at www.cnyeta.org. If applicants cannot gain access to a computer, one will be made available to them during normal business hours. Additionally, applicants may visit their local library or New York State Department of Labor Career Center for computer access. All applications must be received no later than June 10, 2020.  

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED), including one year of Algebra, Math Course 1, or High School Regents Math. Proof will be required at the time of offer of employment.
  • Must attest in writing that they are physically able to perform the work of an electrician, which may include:
    • Climbing and working from ladders, scaffolds, poles, or towers of various heights.
    • Crawling and working in confined spaces
  • Must be able to read and understand English.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from various work sites and related instruction classes.
  • Must take the American Institute for Research’s Electrical Aptitude Test. A $20.00 testing fee will be required. Please note, you may request that this fee be waived. Fee waivers will be approved upon showing verifiable proof of financial need.
  • Must pass a drug test, at the expense of the sponsor, at the time of offer of employment.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
