Elevator Constructors Recruit Apprentices |

Long Island City, NY (October 21, 2015) - The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for The International Union of Elevator Constructors, Local Union #1, will conduct a recruitment from November 21, 2015 through December 4, 2015 for 50 elevator-escalator constructor and modernizer apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.
The recruitment for Local Union #1 will be offered online only, beginning Saturday, November 21, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. through 11:59 p.m. December 4, 2015 (24 hours per day), during the recruitment period or until 1,000 applicants are reached, whichever comes first. A notice will be posted on the Local Union #1 website at www.localoneiuec.com once they have received 1,000 applications. Applicants who do not have Internet access may visit their local library, Local One Education Facility (with the exception of November 26 and 27, 2015), or their nearest New York State Department of Labor Career Center (Monday through Friday, with the exception of November 26, 2015). Computer access will be available at the Local One Education Facility located at 47-24 27th Street, Long Island City, NY between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 21, 2015 and Sunday, November 22, 2015, unless 1,000 applicants are reached. If they receive 1,000 applications a notice will be posted at the facility and on the Local Union #1 website at www.localoneiuec.com.
At a future date, applicants must take and pass the Elevator Industry Aptitude Test with a score of at least 70. A $25.00 testing fee is required on the testing day. Payment must be in the form of a money order or certified bank check (no cash or personal checks will be accepted). Please note, you may request that this fee be waived. Fee waivers will be approved upon showing verifiable proof of financial need.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeships. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities. |
