FASTRACK Comes to the B/D Lines in the Bronx

B Service Ends Early Each Night

Beginning Monday, February 27, MTA New York City Transit’s FASTRACK program is coming to stations along the b and d lines in the Bronx for two weeks.  For four consecutive weeknights from Monday, February 27, to early Friday morning, March 3, and for four weeknights from Monday, March 6 to Friday, March 10, d service will be suspended in both directions between 161 St-Yankee Stadium and Norwood-205 St.  b service will end early each night.

d trains will run between Coney Island-Stillwell Av and 161 St-Yankee Stadium, which will be the last stop.  Free shuttle buses provide connecting service between the Norwood-205 St d and Mosholu Pkway 4 station.  For service between 161 St-Yankee Stadium and Bedford Pk Blvd, use nearby 4 line stations instead.  Transfer between d and 4 trains at 161 St-Yankee Stadium.  For service to Norwood-205 St, take a free shuttle bus via Mosholu Pkwy.  Transfer between 4 trains and free shuttle buses at Mosholu Pkwy.

Workers will perform a variety of tasks that can be accomplished much more safely and efficiently in the absence of train service.  Maintenance workers will take this opportunity to inspect track, repair or replace track components, and perform power and signal inspection and maintenance tasks.  Maintenance of way crews will also clean and scrape dried mud from the roadbed, which will help ensure signal reliability.

In stations, we will also be able to do spot painting, repair platform edges, wall tiles and lighting in addition to performing power washing at some of the closed stations.  By shutting down a section of a subway line, we can work more efficiently and at less cost, in many cases taking days to complete tasks that would normally take weeks.

FASTRACK has been designed around the careful determination that there is adequate alternate means of transportation, including enhanced services along some bus lines during work periods.  Alternative transportation options will be detailed in announcements and posters on trains, in stations and on selected buses; brochures will be available in both English and Spanish.  Information on this FASTRACK is available on the web by clicking here.

FASTRACK was introduced in January 2012, devoting four straight weeknights to perform maintenance work in tunnels, stations and on tracks, completely suspending service within a given line segment for a seven-hour period between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.  FASTRACK efforts have been highly successful in providing a safer work environment for employees and improved station conditions for customers.

Our next FASTRACK overnight closure will be on the l Line in the Brooklyn for two consecutive weeks from April 3 to April 7, and April 10 to April 14.
