Service Changes are Part of Subway Action Plan, Special Subway & Bus Notice for Labor Day Monday, Sept. 3 These weekend service changes are part of the MTA Subway Action Plan, Station work in Queens and Manhattan, and ongoing maintenance, repair and upgrade work throughout the MTA New York City Transit subway system, to maintain and upgrade track, signal, station and other infrastructure in order to provide MTA customers with safe and reliable service. More information on the 2015-2019 Capital Program is available here. This weekend, work crews will be dispersed throughout the entire subway system to perform a variety of critical tasks in the areas of track replacement and maintenance, signal modernization, station enhancements, electrical upgrades and communication improvements. All this work is aligned with the MTA Subway Action Plan, a comprehensive plan to stabilize and modernize the subway system by attacking the key drivers of 79 percent of delay-causing major incidents and strategically targeting additional personnel and equipment to focus on critical parts of the system. The Weekender is accessible through the MTA website by clicking the “Weekender” tab within the Service Status Menu, and is also available as a free app for iPhone and Android devices. TripPlanner+ is an online tool that provides customized travel guidance based on available service and takes weekend service diversions into account. In addition, customers can receive customized subway status emails or texts by signing up at www.MyMTAalerts.com. Special Subway & Bus Notice for Labor Day Monday, Sept. 3 The New York City Subway and New York City buses will operate on a Sunday schedule on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 3. As a reminder, some subway lines do not run on weekends, and customers are advised to allow additional travel time due to weekend work. From 12:01 a.m. to 8 a.m. Monday, Sept. 3, trains will skip Church Av in both directions due to the MTA and NYPD working closely to ensure safe pedestrian flow at the J’ouvert Parade in Brooklyn. As an alternative, use the nearby Beverly Rd or Winthrop St stations instead. Buses in the area will be rerouted. The following bus routes in the parade area may be subject to delays and reroutes: B12, B14, B17, B41, B43, B44, B44 SBS, B45, B46, B46 SBS, B48, B49, B67 and B69. From 12 noon to 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 3, trains will skip Eastern Pkwy in both directions due to the MTA and NYPD working closely to ensure safe pedestrian flow at West Indian-American Day Parade. As an alternative, use the nearby Grand Army Plaza or Franklin Av stations instead. At the Crown Hts-Utica Av station, certain staircases will be designated entrance/exit only. trains will make all local stops in Brooklyn. Buses that serve the area will be affected by reroutes, detours, and frozen zones. Customers should anticipate bus detours and delays on the following routes: B12, B14, B17, B41, B43, B44, B44 SBS, B45, B46, B46 SBS, B48, B49, B67 and B69. In partnership with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the LaGuardia Link Q70 SBS will be operated free of charge this weekend from 12:01 a.m. Friday, Aug. 31, through 11:59 p.m. Monday, Sept. 3. This is due to our continuing efforts to encourage the use of transit to and from the airport, and reduce roadway congestion at the airport during the busy holiday travel periods. From 9:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31 to 5 a.m. Tuesday, Sep. 4, free shuttle buses and/or trains will replace trains between 14 St and South Ferry due to station reconstruction at Cortlandt WTC. service will operate between 242 St and 14 St (express between 42 St and 14 St, days/evenings). Free shuttle buses will run between Chambers St and South Ferry. Transfer between at 42 St or 14 St, and between at Chambers St. From 9:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31 to 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 3, free shuttle buses will replace trains between 135 St and E 180 St due to switch work near 149 St-Grand Concourse, and track replacement between Freeman St and Simpson St, and between Intervale Av and Prospect Av. trains will run in two sections: between Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College and the 148 St line station, and between E 180 St and Wakefield-241 St. Free shuttle buses will run between 135 St and E 180 St. Transfer between trains and buses at 135 St and/or E 180 St. From 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31 to 5 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, trains run local in both directions between 34 St-Penn Station and Chambers St due to station reconstruction at Cortlandt WTC. Late night service will run between Times Sq-42 St and 148 St. At all times until Nov. 2018, trains will skip 145 St in both directions due to MTA’s Enhanced Station Initiative project. The 145 St line station opened more than a century ago in 1904. As crews make critical repairs to the station infrastructure such as concrete and metal platforms, stairs, beams and columns, they will also work to modernize the station with enhancements to all entrances including stairs, LED lighting, digital signage providing real-time service information, and new turnstile areas with security cameras and brighter lighting. Countdown clocks and Help Points, which allow customers to communicate quickly with staff for assistance or emergencies, will be installed throughout the stations. New station furniture and platform safety enhancements such as tactile edge warning strips also will be installed to improve customer safety. During this closure, use nearby stations at 148 St , 145 St , or 135 St . Use M7 and M102 buses along Lenox Av, or the Bx19 along 145 St and transfer to the subway with a MetroCard. The 28 St station is one of the oldest in the subway system, since it opened on the day that subway service began in October 1904. See the entry above for project details. MTA New York City Transit announced that regular scheduled and Rockaway Park shuttle service will resume at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, following the on-time, on-budget completion of two phases of flood protection work in the Rockaways to fortify and subway infrastructure against future storms and to improve overall reliability of subway service on the peninsula. At all times until 11:59 p.m. Monday, Sept. 3, service will be suspended in both directions between Broad Channel and Far Rockaway-Mott Av. service will operate between Inwood-207 St and Broad Channel, and via the to/from Rockaway Park-Beach 116 St. shuttle trains will run between Rockaway Park-Beach 116 St and Beach 90 St, and via the to/from Far Rockaway-Mott Av. For Far Rockaway/Mott Av-bound service take the via transfer at Beach 90 St. Beginning 8:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31, service will end early due to signal modernization. MTA New York City Transit announced that the Cathedral Pkwy-110 St subway station will reopen for service this Labor Day weekend, on-time and on-budget after less than five months of structural repairs and functional improvements to the station’s steel and concrete structure, mezzanine, walls, stairs, and platforms. Beginning at 12 noon on Sunday, Sept. 2, downtown trains will resume stopping at Cathedral Pkwy-110 St. Uptown trains will continue to bypass Cathedral Pkwy-110 St until 5 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4. For uptown service take a downtown train to 59 St and transfer to an uptown . service in both directions will be available at 5 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 4. At all times until Jan. 2019, trains will skip 167 St in both directions MTA’s Enhanced Station Initiative project. As an alternative, customers are advised to use the nearby stations at 170 St , 167 St , or 161 St-Yankee Stadium . Use the Bx1 or Bx2 along Grand Concourse and transfer to the subway at 170 St or 161 St-Yankee Stadium with a MetroCard. These extensive repairs will fix structural defects and deterioration, and include functional station improvements, leading to an enhanced customer experience for approximately 31,000 daily riders who use the 23 St station.
