Plumbers & Steamfitters Recruit Apprentices

Syracuse, NY (November 19, 2013) - The Joint Apprenticeship Committee for Plumbers & Steamfitters, Local #267, will conduct a recruitment from November 27, 2013 through October 22, 2014 for 5-10 pipefitter apprentices, State Labor Commissioner Peter M. Rivera announced today.

Applications can be obtained at the Plumbers & Steamfitters Local #267, 150 Midler Park Drive, Syracuse, NY from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on the fourth Wednesday of each month, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period.

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have a high school diploma or a General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D).  A transcript will be required prior to indenture.
  • Must submit a signed affidavit stating that he/she is physically able to do the work of a pipefitter, which includes:
    • Working with sharp objects, hazardous machinery, and possible exposure to loud noises and respiratory irritants.
    • Prolonged standing, walking, and repeated squatting and/or bending.
    • Working in extreme temperatures, both inside and outside.
    • Working in confined spaces.
    • Lifting and/or moving of heavy objects and equipment.
    • Working off of ladders and scaffolds
    • Working in wet and muddy conditions.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from job sites and related instruction.
  • Must pass a drug test, at the expense of the sponsor, at the time of appointment.
  • Must purchase text material for use in related training classes, as required.
  • Must provide military transfer or discharge form DD-214, if applicable, upon offer or selection.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner.  Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status.  Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs.  Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
