As part of the ongoing work to rehabilitate the upper and lower level roadways of the Henry Hudson Bridge, a new traffic pattern will be in place Manhattan-bound effective the morning of Friday, September 7, 2018. The right lane of the bridge’s Lower Level will be closed and the left and center lanes will be open. This work is being done on an accelerated schedule. For the duration of the project, two Manhattan-bound lanes will remain open during peak travel hours. 

This is part of the previously announced $86 million project to replace the last remaining sections of the 1930s era roadway deck. A signature part of this project will be the removal of columns and toll islands from the old toll plaza on the lower level roadway, which will improve traffic flow and allow for a smoother ride across the bridge. In the previous stage of work the left lane on the Lower Level was closed since February 2018.

In addition, in order to accommodate this improvement work, the Lower Level Pedestrian Walkway will also require closure in approximately one month, at which point a free shuttle service will be provided to carry pedestrians and cyclists.

Motorists should allow for additional travel time or consider an alternate route.
