Volunteers Invited for May 7 “I Love My Park Day” Event at Reinstein Woods

Saturday, May 7, 2016, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) invites the public to “Cache In, Trash Out” at Reinstein Woods Nature Preserve in the Town of Cheektowaga as part of “I Love My Park Day” events.

“We are excited to be partnering with the I Love My Park Day program,” said Reinstein Woods Education Center Director Meaghan Boice-Green. “While we hold a stewardship day annually, this partnership will help attract a new audience to care for our beautiful nature preserve.”

Scout groups, civic organizations, families and individuals will remove invasive plants and plant native wildflowers and trees in Reinstein Woods. Additionally, volunteers can search for “geocaches” while removing trash from the woods at this Cache In, Trash Out® event. Geocaching involves using a handheld global positioning system (GPS) device to locate small containers (geocache) hidden in the woods. No experience is necessary to participate in the geocaching event. Visit www.geocaching.com/cito/ for more information about Cache In, Trash Out.

Volunteers must register ahead of time at http://www.ptny.org/events/i-love-my-park-day/events or by calling (716) 683-5959. Refreshments and a light lunch will be provided by Friends of Reinstein Woods.

“I Love My Park Day” will be held at 110 parks and historic sites across the state on May 7, 2016, and provides an opportunity to give back and ensure that others can continue to enjoy some of the state’s greatest open spaces.

Reinstein Woods Nature Preserve is a 292-acre complex of forests, ponds and wetlands located at 93 Honorine Drive, Depew. Reinstein Woods offers a variety of opportunities to explore and learn about nature for families and people of all ages.
