The New York State Office of Mental Health and the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance today announced the recent opening of Park House, an $86.8 million, 12-story building featuring 248 units of affordable and supportive housing in the Bronx. Developed by the nonprofit Breaking Ground, the project features studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, including 20 supportive housing units for formerly homeless individuals with mental illness.

Office of Mental Health Commissioner Dr. Ann Sullivan said, “The new, beautiful Park House Apartments will provide 20 units of supportive housing with on-site services that will help people with mental illness make their way on the road to recovery with greater independence and dignity. Park House is yet another shining example of Governor Cuomo’s commitment to helping vulnerable New Yorkers, and we at OMH are proud to have played a role in its construction.”

Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance Commissioner Samuel D. Roberts said, “Park House is part of a large, ambitious development that reflects the needs of the community and we are proud to have played a role in its creation. This project underscores Governor Cuomo’s commitment to significantly increase the number of affordable and supportive housing units available in New York City and across the state.”

Located at 4275 Park Avenue in the Bronx, Park House will share a large site with an adjacent building, Webster Supportive Housing, an eight-story building also being developed by Breaking Ground on a reclaimed brownfield site. The project brings much-needed affordable housing to the Tremont neighborhood for families with children. Park House will also include a multi-purpose room, laundry facilities, bicycle storage and large exterior courtyard.

Funding for Park House includes $2 million from the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance’s Homeless Housing and Assistance Program, $5.6 million from the New York State Office of Mental Health, $297,600 from NYSERDA; $21.9 million from the New York City Housing Development Corporation and $17.4 million from New York City Housing Preservation and Development.

Designed by the renowned COOKFOX Architects, Park House echoes the neighborhood’s beautiful masonry apartment buildings and helps instill a sense of pride and dignity for residents who for years were without secure, stable housing.
