DEC Announces Annual Waterfowl Hunter Information Meeting

Meeting Scheduled for September 23

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) announced today that DEC and Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) are hosting the annual waterfowl hunter information meeting at the Refuge Headquarters on Casey Road in Alabama, Genesee County. The meeting will take place on Sept. 23, from 7 to 9 p.m. Wildlife biologists from NWR and DEC will discuss items of interest to waterfowl hunters in an informational and interactive forum, including:

  • Highlights of waterfowl management and research programs at Iroquois NWR, Tonawanda, Oak Orchard, Northern Montezuma and Braddock Bay Wildlife Management Areas, including drawdown schedules and hunt program news;
  • Regional and statewide waterfowl news and updates, including waterfowl banding results;
  • Atlantic Flyway news and waterfowl population status; and
  • 2019-20 duck and goose hunting seasons in New York State.

In addition, an opportunity will be provided to schedule a public tour of wetland management work being done on Oak Orchard and Tonawanda Wildlife Management Areas and Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge.

Directions to the meeting: From the NYS Thruway, take Exit 48A (Pembroke) and travel north on Rte. 77 to Alabama Center. Continue north on Rte. 63 for approximately 1 mile, turn left on Casey Rd. The office is about a mile down the road on the right.
