PULASKI, N.Y. – Barbara Krupke of Pulaski won a $1,000,000 New York Lottery prize on the 25X the Cash scratch-off game. On May 20, Krupke stopped at her local Kinney Drugs on Rome Road to purchase bird seed.  While in the store she decided to cash in $15 she had won on previous Lottery tickets.  Krupke used her winnings to buy a $10 Set For Life ticket and a $5 25X the Cash ticket.

“I chose the 25X the Cash ticket because it was right next to the Set For Life ticket,” explained Krupke.  “When I scratched off the ticket I went back in the store and asked ‘Do you see what I see?’”  When the clerk scanned the ticket and verified it, Krupke admitted she “got all shaky and cried a little bit.”

Krupke chose to receive her $1,000,000 prize as a one-time lump sum payment. She will receive a net check totaling $502,968 after required withholdings.  The retired restaurant owner said her plans for the money are simple.

“We’re kind of lucky and we’ve been pretty successful.  We’ve done everything for ourselves and now we’d like to give back to our family.”

Krupke is the 79th New Yorker to claim a New York Lottery prize of $1,000,000 or more so far this year.

The New York Lottery contributed $33,922,931.11 in Lottery Aid To Education to school districts in Oswego County during fiscal year 2013-2014.

About the New York Lottery

The New York Lottery continues to be North America’s largest and most profitable Lottery, contributing $3.17 billion in fiscal year 2013-2014 to help support education in New York State.  The Lottery’s contribution represents 15 percent of total state education aid to local school districts.

New York Lottery revenue is distributed to local school districts by the same statutory formula used to distribute other state aid to education.  It takes into account both a school district’s size and its income level; larger, lower-income school districts receive proportionately larger shares of Lottery school funding.
