Whiteface Mountain Opens the Lookout Chair & Wilmington Trail

WILMINGTON, N.Y. --- Whiteface Mountain’s Lookout triple chair lift and Wilmington Trail opened for the skiing and snowboarding season today, Wednesday, Jan. 29.

Opened in 2009, The 2.1-mile long Wilmington Trail is the northeast’s longest intermediate run. Skiers and riders can expect pristine corduroy from the junction of the Wilmington Trail and Lookout Below to the base and untouched powder on the top half of the run. 

January is National Safety Month. Visit Whiteface Mountain’s safety kiosk to learn about the resort’s “Know the Zone” program. Whiteface Staff will be using a Chevy Blazer to illustrate the distance that you should keep between you and the skiers and riders around you (15 feet). There will be a safety poster contest, Know the Zone quizzes and best of all PRIZES.  In honor of Safety Month all helmets in Brookside Apparel are 50% off through Jan. 31.

This week Whiteface Mountain plays host to the Empire State Winter Games’ alpine and snowboarding events. Ski and snowboard cross will be tomorrow and Friday, while the mogul events are slated for Friday-Sunday. The Super G event is also slated for Friday, While giant slalom is scheduled for Saturday, and slalom on Sunday.

Saturday Afternoon’s  Après in the Cloudspin Bar & Grill is from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. and as Mike Lashomb formerly of Annie In the Water performs live.
