Laborers Recruit Apprentices

Niagara Falls, NY (July 9, 2015) - The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for Laborers, Local Union #91, will conduct a recruitment from August 4, 2015 through July 5, 2016 for four skilled construction craft laborer apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today. 

Applications can be completed, in person only, at Local Union #91, 4500 Witmer Industrial Estates, Niagara Falls, NY, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., on the first Tuesday of each month during the recruitment period.  If the first Tuesday of the month is a legal holiday, applications can be completed on the second Tuesday of that month.  Applications must be completed on site.

The Committee requires that all applicants:

§  Must be at least 18 years old.  Proof of age will be required after selection and prior to indenture.

§  Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED).  Proof will be required after selection and prior to indenture.

§  Must pass a medical examination, at the expense of the sponsor, after selection and prior to indenture.

§  Must submit to random drug testing, at the expense of the sponsor, after acceptance into the program.

§  Must have reliable means of transportation to and from various work sites and related instruction classes.

§  Must provide military transfer card or discharge form DD-214, if applicable, after selection and prior to indenture.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner.  Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status.  Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs.  Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
