Hugh L Carey Tunnel Brooklyn Toll Plaza Roadway Restoration Starts April 1 |
|
Roadway restoration of the old Brooklyn toll plaza at the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel will commence at 6pm on Saturday, April 1, requiring full closures of tunnel approach lanes and exits for approximately one month. This work will restore the roadway surface on the plaza following the removal of the toll booths, and will result in a smoother ride for customers through the tunnel, which converted to Cashless Tolling operations on January 4, 2017. In order to accommodate the work, there will be a full closure of the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway (BQE)-East access tunnel from Hamilton Avenue, and also a closure of the Hamilton Avenue entrance to the BQE West and Gowanus Expressway for the same period. On the plaza, four lanes of traffic (two in either direction) will be maintained, as will the morning two-way tube that receives HOV/Bus traffic from the Gowanus/BQE. It is anticipated that one lane of traffic to and from the Gowanus will be maintained during peak hours. The work zone will progress across the plaza from the Brooklyn-bound west side to the Manhattan-bound east side and last approximately four weeks. Motorists are advised to allow additional travel time, or consider an alternate route. Motorists can sign up for MTA e-mail or text alerts at www.mta.info for the latest information on this planned work. |
