The NYS Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs (Justice Center) today announced the launch of a new online source of information on disability-related programs, services, information and laws.

The Disability Resource Clearinghouse connects people with disabilities in all settings, their families, caregivers, advocates and other stakeholders with links to dozens of state and federal agencies and national non-profit organizations. Featured topics include accessibility, assistive technology, benefits, disaster/emergency preparedness, education, employment, health and wellness, housing, transportation and voting.  The Clearinghouse can be accessed from the homepage of the Justice Center’s website at www.justicecenter.ny.gov

“The Justice Center is committed to developing tools and programs to support and empower all New Yorkers with disabilities,” said Davin Robinson, Justice Center Deputy Director of Outreach, Prevention and Support. “The links being made available in this new Clearinghouse provide individuals with easy access to information on issues that affect their ability to fully participate in their communities.”

This web-based tool augments the services provided by the Justice Center’s Information and Referral helpline. Staff dispense impartial and informed advice to callers on a wide array of disability issues. The free service is available during business hours by calling 800-624-4143. NYS Relay users should dial 7-1-1.

The Protection of People with Special Needs Act, the state law which established the Justice Center, requires the agency to “serve as a clearinghouse for information relating to services, supports and advocacy for vulnerable persons and individuals with disabilities and provide a statewide system of information and referral to link persons seeking information and assistance with public and private sector services, supports and advocacy which may be appropriate to meet their needs.”
