ADVISORY: MTA to Mark the Reopening of Covert Avenue in New Hyde Park, L.I.

Opened On Schedule, Covert Avenue is Second of Eight Grade Crossing Eliminations as Part of LIRR Expansion

Elected officials will join Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) officials today at 1 p.m. to formally reopen Covert Avenue in New Hyde Park, L.I., to traffic and pedestrians. The street had been closed in April to allow it to be rebuilt as an underpass beneath the LIRR’s busy Main Line. As part of the LIRR Expansion Project (also known as the Third Track project), it is the second of eight at-grade railroad crossings being eliminated to improve safety, train reliability and traffic flow, and reduce local sound nuisances.

WHAT:      MTA officials will offer a tour for elected officials and press of the roadway underpass
