Bricklayers and Allied Craft Workers Recruit Apprentices

Newburgh, NY (April 21, 2017) – The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers, Local Union #5, will conduct a recruitment from May 23, 2017 through May 22, 2018 for five bricklayer, mason, and plasterer apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.

Applications can be obtained at Local Union #5, 1 Scobie Drive, Newburgh, NY from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. every Monday, excluding holidays, during the recruitment period. In May of 2017, applications can be obtained on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. In May of 2018, applications can be obtained on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. All applications must be postmarked no later than 05/22/18.

The Committee required that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have a high school diploma or high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED).

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
