Media Availability for Advanced Active Shooter Training

What: Law enforcement and EMS first responders from western New York will test their capabilities as a “Rescue Task Force” or unified group in the event of a complex attack.  The Rescue Task Force approach was applied by first responder agencies in Las Vegas when they responded to the active shooter event earlier this month. Media will observe law enforcement and EMS respond to a mock active shooter scenario in the New York State Preparedness Training Center's world-class training venue - Cityscape, a 44,000 square foot indoor/outdoor-simulated city block.

Who: Law enforcement officers and emergency medical services responders from western New York who would respond to potential active shooter incidents or acts of aggressive deadly behavior at New Era Field, home of the Buffalo Bills. Participants include members of the New York State Police, Erie County Sheriff’s Department, Erie County Medical Services, and other local emergency response agencies.

Why: Law enforcement and EMS participants from the same region train together so techniques and concepts learned can be better leveraged in emergencies.  This delivery specifically focuses on agencies’ response to potential incidents at New Era Field, given past terrorist events worldwide that targeted mass gathering events and sports venues.

Where: New York State Preparedness Training Center, 5900 Airport Road, Oriskany, NY 13424.

When: Wed., Oct. 18, 2017 | Registration: 1–1:30 p.m. | Scenario begins at 1:45 p.m.

RSVP: Please RSVP by Tuesday, October 17. Due to the sensitive nature of the training and security at the facility, attendees need to be admitted into the SPTC.  Please provide names of reporters, photographers and videographers planning to attend to Kristin Devoe at Kristin.Devoe@dhses.ny.gov or 518-242-5153.  Credentials will be provided at check-in.  Media will be escorted around the facility.
