Metro-North to Begin Upgrading Parking Lots at Three Hudson Line Stations

Enhancements Include Better Drainage, New Pavement and Pavement Markings
MTA Metro-North Railroad today announced the railroad will begin making parking lot upgrades at Cold Spring, Beacon and New Hamburg stations in August and September. Parking upgrades include better drainage, new pavement, new pavement markings and safety enhancements to provide a better customer experience. Temporary closings and parking restrictions will be necessary as work proceeds.

“One of the core pieces of Metro-North’s Way Ahead program is maintaining a state of good repair throughout the system,” said Metro-North President Catherine Rinaldi. “As we welcome back more riders, these upgrades are an important investment in customer safety and convenience.”

Cold Spring Station: Starting August 16 the parking lot will be closed for approximately one week while crews will perform excavation work and install a new subsurface to prevent future cracks and potholes. After these repairs have been performed, the entire parking lot surface will be milled and repaved with new asphalt. Finally, new striping and symbols will be painted onto the new parking lot surface. The entire parking facility will be closed so these upgrades can be completed in less time while ridership remains low.

Metro-North’s parking operator LAZ will honor the existing permits of Cold Spring customers at Beacon and Garrison stations. Customers that use the meters at Cold Spring station are also able to use the meters at Beacon and Garrison. In addition, the Village of Cold Spring’s municipal lot on Fair Street is also available for paid, metered parking. Train service to and from Cold Spring will not be affected.

Beacon: The north half of the parking lot is already closed while crews perform drainage work. After Labor Day, the entire parking lot will be closed for milling, resurfacing, and restriping. The main parking facility on the west side of the tracks will be available for parking. Access to the Newburgh-Beacon ferry will be maintained for pedestrians between the underpass and ferry dock.

New Hamburg: The parking lot will be resurfaced and restriped in early-September. A concrete drop-off area, will be built to improve traffic flow and increase the overall safety of the parking lot. The parking lot will be reduced to 50% capacity while these improvements are being made.
