New York State Office of General Services (OGS) Commissioner RoAnn Destito today announced the establishment of a new contract for large rocks and boulders that will be used by local municipalities and the State to stabilize erosion along the Lake Ontario and St. Lawrence River shorelines and in flood-prone areas throughout New York State. OGS released a statewide solicitation for sourcing and delivery of extra heavy rock material for armoring and erosion control as part of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s Resiliency & Economic Development Initiative (REDI) to increase the resilience of shoreline communities and bolster economic development in the region.

“Governor Cuomo is committed to helping Lake Ontario and St. Lawrence River communities rebuild their shoreline and create resiliency against future flooding,” Commissioner Destito said. “The creation of this contract for heavy rocks and boulders will provide those communities and the State with easy access to a resource that they need to get the job done.”

DEC Commissioner Basil Seggos said, “Despite the challenges we face, Governor Cuomo is working to expedite projects that are part of the State’s Resiliency and Economic Development Initiative. This contract will streamline and accelerate the process to provide contractors and vendors the ability to advance projects that will strengthen shoreline protections for flood-prone communities in and around Lake Ontario and beyond.”

Bids were opened on February 27, with 18 vendors responding. Bid responses are currently under review, and it is anticipated that orders for the rock material will be accepted as early as March 31. 

Once the contract is awarded, local municipalities, agencies, and other authorized contract users throughout the state will be able to use a quick quote process directly with vendors to describe their specific needs and delivery details. OGS will provide additional guidance on using the contract closer to awarding.
