The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) will reopen Lake George (AKA Million Dollar) Beach on Saturday June 24, after test results showed that the beach is safe for swimming.

Test results from samples collected on Thursday show levels of E. coli below the Department of Health (DOH) sanitary threshold. The beach is scheduled to be open to swimming seven days a week through Labor Day with public has access to the beach from 8:00 a.m. -8:00 p.m. daily to relax and picnic.  Swimming is permitted daily from 9:00am-7:00pm when lifeguards are on duty.  Swimmers may not enter the water if lifeguards are not on duty.  If future testing shows that E.coli levels exceed DOH limits, DEC will post signs at the beach notifying the public of a closure.

DEC, the town and village of Lake George, and the Lake George Association are working diligently to identify and eliminate the source of E.coli found in the waters at the beach. DEC’s investigation includes extensive sampling to track down potential sources of bacteria, and the agency will be working with state and local officials as necessary to quickly implement actions to identify and terminate any continuing pathogen contamination. Sampling will be conducted on a daily basis to ensure the safety of the swimming area.
