NYSERDA Board of Directors Appoints John Rhodes President and CEO

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) announced that John B. Rhodes was appointed president and chief executive officer of the Authority at its board meeting today.    

“John brings a great depth of knowledge from the energy and finance industries and his more than 25 years of experience will be invaluable as he joins NYSERDA at a crucial time,” said Richard Kauffman, NYSERDA Chairman.  “John will be integral to the establishment of the New York Green Bank, as well as to our efforts to accelerate market forces to spur investment in clean energy that will advance new technologies, create green jobs and ensure a resilient and reliable energy system across New York.”

Mr. Rhodes said, “I am excited and grateful to the NYSERDA Board for this opportunity to advance Governor Cuomo’s initiatives to ensure that New York achieves a clean, affordable and reliable energy system and that it remains a national leader with innovative energy policies and programs.  I look forward to working with public and private partners to expand investment and innovation in energy to drive the State’s clean energy economy and stimulate economic activity.” 

Mr. Rhodes was most recently the Director of the Center for Market Innovation (CMI) for the Natural Resources Defense Council.  Prior to that, he acted as Chief Operating Officer at Good Energies, a leading investment firm specializing in energy efficiency, renewable and traditional energy markets.  Mr. Rhodes was also a partner at Booz Allen Hamilton. He is a graduate of Princeton University and the Yale School of Management.

Mr. Rhodes succeeds Francis J. Murray, Jr., who was president and CEO since 2009.
