Siting Board Approves Amendments Related to Cassadaga Wind Project

Expanding Tree-Clearing Window Will Allow Project to Quickly Move Forward

ALBANYThe New York State Board on Electric Generation Siting and the Environment (Siting Board) today granted conditional approval to Cassadaga Wind LLC’s request for an amendment to its Certificate of Environmental Compatibility and Public Need to expand the previously approved tree-clearing window for site preparation.

On January 17, 2018, Siting Board approved the Cassadaga Wind project pursuant to Article 10 of the Public Service Law. The 126 MW Cassadaga wind farm as approved will consist of up to 48 high-capacity, 500-foot tall wind turbines, together with associated transmission lines, both underground and above ground collection lines, access roads, meteorological towers, operation and maintenance building, collection and point of interconnect substations, and related facilities, located in the Towns of Cherry Creek, Charlotte, Stockton, and Arkwright Chautauqua County, and would interconnect to the state's electrical grid along the Dunkirk-Moon 115 kV transmission line.

On January 11, 2019, Cassadaga Wind petitioned the Siting Board seeking an amendment to the Board’s initial tree clearing approval. The Siting Board today expanded the tree-clearing window but put in place rigorous restrictions to protect birds and bats. The Board’s approval is conditioned upon Cassadaga Wind adhering to all such construction control and animal protection measures identified in its petition. The approval will not create a significant adverse impact on the environment.

Today’s order may be accessed by visiting the Department of Public Service website, www.dps.ny.gov, then clicking the “Search” link on the upper center area of the page, then using the “Search by Case Number” feature, to search for Case 14-F-0490. The application materials may be located under the tab “Filed Documents.” The application is also available for review at local public libraries in the project area and upon request to Cassadaga Wind.
