Roofers Recruit Apprentices

Albany, NY (December 02, 2017) - The Roofers JATC of the Capital District, Local Union #241, will conduct a recruitment from January 02, 2018 through August 7, 2018 for 10 roofer apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.

Please note that the openings listed for apprentices represent the total number for three recruitment regions – the Capital District, Mohawk Valley, and North Country regions. This program’s jurisdiction includes the counties of Albany, Clinton, Columbia, Essex, Fulton, Greene, Hamilton, Montgomery, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Warren, and Washington.

Applications can be obtained and submitted at Local Union #241, 890 Third Street, Albany, NY, every Tuesday, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 and from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period.

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must be physically able to perform the work required of a roofer, which may include:
    • Lifting 70 pounds.
    • Working at heights on low-pitch and steep roofing.
    • Climbing ladders and scaffolding.
    • Working in hot and cold weather.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from various job sites and related instruction classes.
  • Must provide DD-214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty, if applicable, after selection and prior to indenture.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
