MTA, NYC DOT Advise Customers of Upcoming Signal Modernization Work in Southern Brooklyn, Belt Parkway Closures

f Trains to Operate Between Jamaica-179 St and Church Av Starting at 9:45 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8 Through 5:00 a.m., Monday, Dec. 11

To Accommodate Work Taking Place, Alternating Road Closures on Belt Parkway Starting at 9:00 p.m. Each Night Between Dec. 8 and Dec. 10

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) and New York City Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) today advised customers of upcoming signal modernization work along the f line happening next weekend. The modernization work is part of the Authority’s Culver Line Signal Modernization project, which is fully replacing signals on the Culver Line from Church Av to West 8 St in Brooklyn to improve reliability and resilience.

To accommodate the modernization work, f trains will operate between Jamaica-179 St and Church Av next weekend, starting on Friday, Dec. 8 at 9:45 p.m. Regular f train service is expected to resume by 5:00 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 11. In June, the MTA announced free shuttle bus service to replace f trains between Church Av and Coney Island-Stillwell Av.

To minimize service changes and future outages in the area, NYC Transit crews will perform track renewal work, which will lead to improved reliability and better service along the line.

Road Closures on Belt Parkway

To safely accommodate work, the MTA, in close coordination with NYC DOT, will implement alternate road closures for the weekend of Dec. 8 on the Belt Parkway. Detour routes will be provided.

Motorists are strongly encouraged to seek alternative routes across southern Brooklyn — or to use mass transit.

  • Friday, Dec. 8: From 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. there will be a full eastbound closure, with one westbound lane open.
  • Saturday, Dec. 9: From 9:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. there will be a full westbound closure and one eastbound lane open.
  • Sunday, Dec. 10: From 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., lanes closures to be determined on construction needs.
