The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today announced the appointment of Cedrick Fulton as the new President of MTA Bridges and Tunnels. Mr. Fulton will join the MTA on July 10 and will replace Tim Mulligan, who has been serving as Acting President.

In his most recent role, Mr. Fulton served as Director, Tunnels, Bridges & Terminals at Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, where he was responsible for managing all six Port Authority Bridges and Tunnels, as well as the Port Authority Bus Terminal and George Washington Bridge Bus Station.

Mr. Fulton will lead an agency that carries more traffic than any other bridge and tunnel authority in the nation, serving nearly 305 million vehicles each year; the continued flow of toll revenue from Bridge and Tunnel facilities also helps support nearly 9 million daily customers across the entire MTA system.

Mr. Fulton will oversee important ongoing projects, including the full implementation of cashless tolling at all MTA facilities, the restoration and fortification of the Queens Midtown and Hugh L. Carey Tunnels after Superstorm Sandy, and the completion of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge upper level deck replacement project.

His experience and leadership will be tremendous assets as we work to solidify the future of our facilities and improve our bridge and tunnel network as part of Governor Cuomo’s efforts to bring the region’s transportation infrastructure into the 21^st century,” said MTA Interim Executive Director Ronnie Hakim. “We are grateful to Acting President Tim Mulligan for lending his leadership and management skills to advance an aggressive agenda of Bridge and Tunnel projects through this very busy time.”

Major B&T projects in the Capital Plan at Bridge and Tunnel facilities include the implementation of Cashless Tolling; structural improvements to the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge; rehabilitation of the approach viaduct and replacement of the suspended span deck at the Throgs Neck Bridge; and new approach ramps, anchorage and pier repairs and a new Brooklyn approach at the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge.

Fulton joined the Port Authority in 1993 where he spent most of his career focusing on Bridges and Tunnels. He comes to the MTA with a wealth of experience, most notably in the areas of security, operations and asset management. He holds a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Business Administration from St. Leo University and a Juris Doctor from Seton Hall Law School.

Tim Mulligan will transition back to his prior position as Executive Vice President of New York City Transit.

MTA Bridges and Tunnels’ facilities, which connect the five boroughs of New York City, are the Robert. F. Kennedy, Throgs Neck, Bronx-Whitestone, Henry Hudson, Verrazano-Narrows, Cross Bay Veterans Memorial and Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Bridges, and the Queens Midtown and Hugh L. Carey Tunnels.
