Carpenters Recruit Apprentices

Utica, NY (February 27, 2014) - The Empire State Carpenters Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee, Local Union #747 (Utica) Zone 7, will conduct a recruitment from March 6, 2014 through February 5, 2015 for 10 carpenter apprentices, State Labor Commissioner Peter M. Rivera announced today.

Applications can be obtained and accepted from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period, at Working Solutions Career Center, NYS Office Building, Suite 202, 207 Genesee St., Utica, NY.

All applications must be received no later than February 12, 2015.

The Committee requires that applicants:

  • Must be at least 18 years old; proof is required at time of employment.
  • Must have a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma (G.E.D); proof is required at time of employment.
  • Must be physically able to perform the work required, as determined by the applicant attesting to the required qualifications listed on the Apprentice Application.  
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from work and school.  
  • Must provide a copy of DD-214 military discharge form, if applicable, at time of employment.
  • Must reside within one of the following counties: Oneida or Herkimer.
  • Must take a UBC qualifying test.
  • Must take and pass a drug test provided by the Apprentice Program, given at the time of employment, paid for by the JATC.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
